Ongoing Quilt Projects, Continued from the "No Appreciation...." Thread

Pics
Finally made it back. I took last week off work and have been practically living in my sewing room.
Cyn, what size was that log cabin variation of chevron blocks you did on your tube channel mean to be?

I just started one, because it's been on my mind since I saw it. I gave in. :)

Mine are 10" finished blocks, Terrie. I can't wait to see how you do on it! I so wanted mine to work out, but no way. I may spend an entire day just seam ripping and see if I can salvage mine.

Hi everyone, just came across this thread in the "new posts" list. Some time ago, I mentioned how I'd started a quilt but not finished it. I got it out with a view to working on it over winter, but it didn't happen.
Anyway, the other day I discovered a quilting supplies shop right behind my doctor's (I hadn't noticed it before, I'm usually going past in my car, but I was on foot this time) and popped in to ask whether anyone might want it. The upshot is that the lady who works there belongs to a sewing group where they make quilts to give to foster children so I gave her the quilt. Hopefully, it will get finished and some kid will get to use it. :)

That was nice! I'm glad you found the shop.

Someone on here said I could send it over there, but our postal service is absurdly expensive. It's good that it found a "good home" locally. Having it here was like failure staring me in the face. :D

Haha, failure stares us all in the face, trust me! I have my messes that I just put aside and hope I can forget. Or, I hope I can drum up the courage to salvage a disaster eventually. But, really, you didn't fail. You just got it to a nice place in the process for someone else to finish. That's not a failure. Some projects, we just lose interest in and it's really hard to slog through the process. Been there, done that!

It was my first, last and only ever project. I had a friend who was "into" quilting and I started it then, but I never really got into it. I love quilts. My sister-in-law's mum used to also make quilts. I'd love a nice quilt on my bed, but it's not really practical when I have undisciplined indulged dogs who I let up here with me (yes, it's disgusting, what can I say? :D)
I'll just have to buy one, one day. (they had a nice one on display in the shop and it was only $350 which I think is cheap for the amount of work involved) They aren't really appreciated so much here in a super-hot climate where you rarely need a blanket.
Anyway, I'll just stick to my admiration of all of you!

Got a bit further with this first Carpenter's Wheel. I put another cream border, then I found this fabric at Hobby Lobby that matches the little orangey-gold leaves in the dark olive green print in the center. Don't ask where I'll go after this round, have no idea. The Buttercup quilt will end up queen size and go on my own bed.

Well, not everything is for everybody. At least, you tried something, right? Some folks never try. If you don't like it, you don't like it or don't like something about the process. No biggie. You do have some super hot summers! I've never wanted to go anywhere in the world other than my own country and maybe Australia. Maybe it was from watching The Thorn Birds all those years ago, or worse, Crocodile Dundee, LOL. Seems a very interesting place.

oh, I've tried lots of things, just this wasn't for me. I didn't like the bulk of it, and I was too judgmental about my stitching not being even enough (who on earth would ever notice on a bedspread? Answer: nobody, but it still bothered me.) I couldn't get it better pushing through all of those layers. Anway, enough about me, the rejects should sit back and admire the successful. :D

Oh, fine hand quilting takes years of practice. You should have seen my first attempt at it. I've come a very long way from there. It's not a skill you pick up overnight. This was my very first attempt at hand quilting (this pillow cover was hand pieced, too). See? I didn't start out at 8-10 stitches per inch!
