Ongoing Quilt Projects, Continued from the "No Appreciation...." Thread

This 80/20 bolt measured 96" x 9 yards. It was about $23, so pretty darn cheap compared to the packaged batting. The last time, I got the same size bolt, but 100% cotton for about the same price. Just look at Walmart online or Amazon for good deals. The cotton brand was Pellon, can't remember if this brand is or not, would have to go look at the bolt.

ith a thin batting you need to do a close quilting and that will help it hold together.
I like the really thin batting for summer quilts. And if you want to do a really close quilting, then the thin stuff is the way to go.
When I was just starting out, I made a quilt with cheap thin stuff and did my quilting with a 4 inch spacing. That one had the batting break apart and get clumpy.

I am not sure that doubling up a thin batting will work. It would still be a fairly "fragile" batting, but just 2 layers thick.

Any thoughts on a Brother VQ3000?

I found a used one with table for a reasonable(ish) price.

It has an 11.25" throat. ..... Last serviced a year ago.

Did I mention my singer cannot even zig zag without issues? It also choked on sewing blocks together where there were just 6 layers of fabric.
I have the vm6200d which is the VQ3000 with the embroidery function. It’s an awesome machine. I love mine.

Ok now that I have caught up on the thread.....
Hubby and I got home last Monday from our cruise to Alaska, then I jumped right back into work. Monday is a holiday, so I plan on spending time stacking wood and sewing aprons for a craft fair coming up in December.
It’s getting colder here, and I am looking forward to spending more time in the sewing room with Netflix and a pot of tea while wearing my daytime pajamas. :D

Yeah, I knew you'd find that out. Your machine on that table is like mine was on the other dining table, just too high. Now that it's sunk into the new table, the stool I was sitting on is perfect. Find something taller soon or you'll have neck/shoulder/back strain! Or do like I did and sit on a pillow, though that falls off every time you get up, LOL.
I sprung for a Koala chair. It’s adjustable and well made. Lots of support and cushion. It goes high enough so I can sit at my long arm to do more detailed quilting without hunching over.

So far the new machine is pretty great.

I am going to do a table runner sized sample with 2 layers of batting and see if I hate it.
Hubby has it in his head that one layer wont be warm.
I may go get poly batting for his quilt. :hmm
It measures about 48x78.

Whew, another hot day! I wish it would cool off already! I got more done on this quilt yesterday, the gold border and part of the next section.

Very pretty! I love the texture you are getting in your quilting.
What batting do you use?

I am thinking with my cheap batting I may need to double it up......concerned about shifting a bit......
I use Warm and Natural. It's 87% cotton and antiques beautifully with the first wash.
it can get pricey though. JoAnn will put out a coupon for 60% off that you can use on a bolt now and then. I get it by the 45 yard roll direct from The Warm Company because I use so much.

So glad you like the machine. what do you think of the monster walking foot? That is awesome! The only thing that machines doesn't do is brew my coffee.

Beautiful (as always). It's 38 degrees here this morning. Not quite cool enough for a fire, but cool enough for a sweater and flannel pajama pants.
