online Crazy Egg Chain Chat thread

I have no idea how many chickens I have. The ones who are penned add up to 72, but there's at least that many more who aren't penned. Then there are the quail, guineas, ducks, geese, and peafowl. Well over 200 birds all together I have no doubt. Not counting the ones in the house.

Oh my, your husband clearly has no idea about chicken math! They are supposed to multiply. See, if you hatch a million chicks and sell them for $1 each, you have a million dollars! My husband wants me to sell about 100 or so. I do plan to go to the auction Saturday with a truck full. I am just having a crazy fun time with my chickens. Need to do some major coop building, though. Working on runs and nest boxes now. I recently built three chicken tractors. Just hope I can get them all situated before cold weather sets in again . Summer will be gone before you know it.

Uh-huh...so we're going to count now?

Penned birds:
5 BCM
2 BR
5 silkies
5 japanese
5 bantam cochins
13 serama
5 OEGB
22 youngsters (10 BCM, 1 silkie, 1 OEGB, and 10 serama)
4 BCM
4 OEGB, 2 bantam cochins, 2 mixes
2 peafowl
6 Birmingham roller pigeons
12 ringneck doves
16 coturnix quail

In the trees: 3 OEGB that I know of

On top of the marans' pen: 2 OEG

Roosting on the porch/in the rafters of the porch: 4 bantam cochins, 4 'cochilkies', 5 cochilkie chicks, 1 OEGB, 2 EE, 6 guineas

In the front yard/pond: 5 embden geese, 6 embden goslings, 7 pekin ducks, 4 rouen ducks, 2 runner ducks, and 3 mixed ducks.

In the barn: Hmmm...this is a guesstimate...5 guineas, 12 OEGB, 6 OEG, 3 Golden Lakenvelders, 1 WL, 1 black Cochin, 1 EE, 1 bantam EE, 2 BR, 3 LF roos (who knows what breed), at least 5 mixed breed hens. Plus there are 2 mamas with 14 babies total. Oh, and 4 youngsters who were hatched earlier this spring.

In the house there are 40 button quail (12 youngsters, 9 breeding pairs, 10 single males), 3 chukar chicks, 1 guinea keet, 3 or 4 bantam day-olds, 3 tiny seramas (same age as the ones outside but 1/3 to 1/2 their size), 6 or 8 BCM, and 6 (I think) lavender/split lavender Ameraucanas.

There are also 17 broody birds on the property that I know of, plus a verrrrrrry full incubator...so these numbers will rise very soon!

I think that's all of them

Tractors work great, that's what my babies are in. The ones I 'designed' are pretty easy to make and move. I like having the birds on grass instead of dirt, I doubt I'll ever have any 'solid' pens.
