today I went shopping and it almost gave me a heart attack Two items went DOWN in price ! Gas and 2x4s. Got more free 4 ' boards when I bought lumber, bought a quart of paint for $2. Picked up some more baby clothes for granddaughter . Could not find four foot hardware cloth for a reasonable price, so I will have to work with 3'. Got some open bags of crimped oats cheap, will add it to everyone's feed, except DH.:-D

Making progress on the coop, got the floor almost done. Made the frame for the door, did some painting.
I was all the way down at Guinealand, and heard a horn honk. So there were guys there wanting six dozen eggs. And then a little bit later some folks from down the road brought over a goat to get bred. So my buck will earn his oats this week;-)

Yesterday i got the back wall up on my big coop.I had to do a lot of shimming to get the wall sort of strait. Today i got 3 doors made and finished painting the small piece on the roof, because i ran out of paint at the end.Great weather here but what little work i do is really wearing me out.So i'm going to see the doctor again just to be safe.

Progress is being made! The door is on, the walls are done! I need to put one 2x4 next to the door, and put on the latch. I started the run, got one panel made but need more wire. I am supposed to go to a wedding tomorrow night, but I don't want to go.:p Have to go to town and get Rx's, a card, and a couple of other items. More feed as usual is needed. You know the silly chickens didn't seem to like crimped oats?
More quail hatched, 8 I think, and one chick. Maybe more tonight. Got my mystery eggs today, some are button quail, which I have never hatched before.
Must go down and check the chickens in the barn.

The latch is on, the 2x4 is on, the floor is done, the perches are up, and the hooks are in place to hold feeder and waterer. We took the panel to the location , and I started the one that will have a door in it. Plus i started a new silkie pen. Only one wall left , and i need to make the door taller. Then i will be able to separate the red and buff silkies from the black and blue ones. Finally!
I opted out of going to the wedding, just too many other things to do. I did buy more welded wire for the run, and chicken feed. Hopefully tomorrow i will finish up that run!

Good luck Deb on finishing the coop. I need to get busy with my breeding pens and insulating the coop. My coop is about 20 by 30. I have a pen in there for the Ia Blues. I'm making one in there for my GL Polish, the Langshans, and the young birds. When I figured it I could do 2 more pens. I also have 7 calf pens I'm changing into breeding pens that are 4 ft by 8 foot and 2 that are 6 foot by 8 foot. If I get my FIL's hogs out of the hog house I could put the geese in there and make an 8 by 8 pen too where the geese are.
On a side note, most of the eggs from you are developing.

That's great news, Jim! One lady I sent eggs to said my chicken eggs were the only shipped ones she had hatch.
Sounds like we are both on the same page trying to get coops and pens ready:-D

DH got in on the building today and we got the run built! The top is on, and the pop door is cut. Now I need to dig the trenches around the perimeter and bury the wire skirt. After supper I started building the nest box. I just love my pneumatic stapler, it makes light work of attaching wire and small boards ! With any luck, I will be able to get it done tomorrow . Yay !
The chicks I set on the 10th are hatching, and I set a whole tray on the 11th, so hopefully I will have a good hatch. Mostly buckeyes and RIR I have an order for. A productive day!

Today DH attached the nest box to the polish coop. They are not laying yet, but hopefully soon. I finished the nest box for the speckled Sussex coop and attached it. Finished the skirt, buried the wire and installed a light. Put foam in insulation in the bigger gaps to keep it warm for winter. Just need to trim foam, touch up paint, DONE! Hopefully tomorrow they will go in their new coop. Then those other birds from the brooder can go in the grow out pen. Next I need to finish that silkie pen in the barn.
The chicks are hatching like crazy! I am meeting one of my customers in Jackson tomorrow with a load of chicks. He wants all red ones, so that's what goes.
Hooray! I got my first egg from the silver Sussex today! You can bet it is going in the Bator!
