we are in middle Tennessee. Seen bobcats about 25 years ago on the property but none since.pretty much every critter you mentioned has been seen here at one time or another. We have had problems with raccoons and opossums but they always left evidence that something had been here.
In the last few weeks we have had at least 11 ducks come up missing without a trace. The chickens have not been touched. The ducks include 1 peking, 1 mallard, 3 Indian runner and the rest were mixes between mallards/runners/east indies. They are fenced in on 1/3 Acre. No holes under fence. No extra feathers anywhere. Usually when we have problems there are feathers everywhere, dead bodies and usually chickens. There are also 2 goats in with them. And a goose. I don't know what time of day they come up missing.I know there are red tail hawks here, the neighbor lost his chickens to foxes. I do live in the country.
I was just wondering if anyone had any pointers on how to keep birds of prey away if that is what it is. It is just weird that it takes ducks only. The chickens are so much easier to catch!
Where is your place?Noone came up missing today. However when I went outside earlier I did see a larger bird kind of swoop down and then flew in to the woods. I did not get a look at what kind it was. It was pouring rain and you don't see many birds out in the rain.
the neighbor across the field says usually every day around 4pm that there are two chicken hawks that circle our properties and a neighboring property. He has a small pen so he covered his with a mesh and the Hawks still fly into it. Other than that, no other leads. Whatever it is goes over the fence, as there are no holes under the fence or in it.Any update?
