Oooooh no....Silkies???!!!

However, if you can look past their appearance, you may find that they are a good choice for you. Here are some reasons why...

(A) Because of their docile nature, they are generally a good choice for backyard pets, and for kids to show.

(B) They are not flighty since they can't fly, and are rarely cause a problem by going over a neighbors fence.

(C) Because of their size, they make GREAT backyard birds for people who live in cities or suburban areas.

(D) They are GREAT mothers. Silkies are generally used by a lot of game breeders to hatch out gamebirds like quail, pheasant and others.

(E) They are a very interactive bird, and very animated. They get attached to their human owners rather quickly with regular handling.

I was in the same boat as you...didn't want any. But I did not think they were ugly. Their cuteness is what indeed made me get one but all the other things stated above are so very true! Mine went from being scared to death of me to loving me in just a few short weeks. It's like owning a tiny bitty doggie who adores you! How can someone NOT want one of those! LOL GET ONE, GET ONE! You won't be sorry you did!

I told my mom I'd bought some eggs to hatch.
The very first thing she said was, "They are NOT silkie eggs, are they?"

Yup! They're silkie eggs!

Brown? My silkies lay white eggs...

Eggshells will differ from Silkie to Silkie, and varietiy to varietiy. Currently my Buffs lay a cream to beige colored egg, while my blues lay a more pale, whiter egg.

Ohh.. thank you! Never knew that, I've had Silkies for about 6 years and I've only ever had white eggs.
