Oops, dumb brooder question

So, just to add to the tale of Murphy visiting chicks brooded in a bathroom, here’s my experience:

Large jacuzzi tub. Old, but large, and wide, with high sides. We lined it with plastic (up the sides) and applied generous amounts of tape to the edges. Puppy pee pads lined the bottom, I recall. As it happens, we were excited new chick owners so had the habit of counting the chicks and checking on them an obscene amount of times during the day. Hey, they are cute and charming, and those little chirps! Anyway, this was a good thing. Somehow, one of those little chicks got between the plastic and the tub. It was a snug fit, so the chick was not moving, and as it was darker in that part of the broider tub, it wasn’t making any noise. It was also hard to see it. We counted chicks and one was missing! They were maybe a week old, so not flying, and not yet very acrobatic, but with the high tub sides and the door closed it had to be there. It took several minutes and counting a couple more times, but the chick was extracted -alive and fine - and more tape applied.

You have me thinking I'll line with tarp and THEN contain them in the dog crate inside that...I could, as someone mentioned, get the folded crate in the door and set it up. And the tarp would contain the mess when I have to re-fold it to get it out. Not ideal, but better than a suffocating escape artist baby chick!!

this might be an unreasonable solution but... can you remove the shower door?

I considered that, but then getting it out once full of poo would be tricky...
can you put the contents in a trash bag while it's still in the tub? if its only 3 chicks and you use puppy pads, there really wont be much mess. if it's a ridiculous amount then you probably need to clean it more often.

I'm just ideally looking for a solution I can carry outside every couple days and dump into the compost, hose off, and replace bedding...may not be feasible to come up with something that easy. Maybe I can make a couple litter trays I could dump into a bag and then carry the bag to the compost. Just one extra step.

And also a solution where I dont find glued-on dried poops stuck to the shower tile itself. 🤣

Dirt boxes.
Go to the grocery store canned food aisle and get free boxes that the cans come in.

fill them with dirt and cover the floor of whatever you're using with those boxes.

Not the best video but it's the first one I clicked on.

here you can see the type of box I'm talking about.

With only three chicks I’d just line the tub with cheap paper towels from Walmart (50 cents a roll) and change it daily. Since it’s paper you can compost it unlike puppy pads. And then just clean any poo mess off the tub/shower floor. Pretty simple and easy.

If you had 6+ I could understand needing more bedding, but three aren’t much to clean up after.
