I have had a white homing pigeon for two years(?) now. It was originally found after a storm in someones dogs waterbowl and they surrendered it to my work. I love my pigeon, and it thinks it is a chicken, lives in the coop- flies around freely, and will follow me about the yard. It has courted every chicken I have had, cooing and bobbing and constantly making a nest----and following my hens around, cooing and it is always making a sound, even when it is alone in the coop.
I posted a picture before of it sitting on chicken eggs, and constantly pestering one of my hens to be its mate.
I posted before when it was gone for three days and how sad I was that it was probably a victim of a hawk..and then returned
I also had another BYC member purchase a female pigeon for me at a swap, and she stayed until her wing feathers grew back then took off with the neighboring riff-raff pigeons.
My poor "MALE" pigeon needs a mate.
Well, today, I found him in his own little nest next to my muscovy duck nest- with his own little pigeon eggs in it.
So, now that I know he is most definitely a SHE- and a forward one at that, lol... I need to find a male for her. Poor lonely pigeon. I have actually frustrated myself because for over a year now, I passed up ads looking for a home for their MALES. heh heh heh...
