I finally bit the bullet and went to see the new neighbors tonight. I took them freshly baked chocolate chip cookies on a pretty snowman tray that they can keep. I confessed to calling the police on them. They had apparently been observing the neighborhood and placing bets on the person they thought was the culprit. Their friend who is helping them move everything in did a little dance and declared himself the winner.
He thought I looked the most guilty.
They thanked me and said they were glad to have watchful neighbors.
They offered to return the favor someday (I'm still pondering that one.
).
Then they mentioned my roosters.
I was getting worried as they told me the realestate agent warned them about the "scary" chickens. She told them that a few people had passed on the property because of them. These neighbors then told me that those people were stupid. They
love roosters! Both the husband and the wife grew up on farms!
I immediately offered them one.
The wife declined at the same time the husband said, "I wanna rooster!".
He mentioned the pretty little one that looks like the boss of the big ones. Uh.....no.......but I have some pretty Orpingtons.
Anyway, they offered my daughter a babysitting job until they make other arrangements. They said they had noticed her and thought she looked like a nice kid. (It turns out someone really was following my daughter in their car. She told me there was a lady "staring her down" as she was walking home from the bus stop.) The neighbor said she just disappeared before she could speak to her. (My daughter hid because they scared her.)
So, I have been hiding in my house for no reason. They new neighbors seem like great people.
I will have them talked into building a coop in no time!
