Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

Wll since I technically made my senility post at 12:08am I thought I'd try to finish the day with a post that makes a little more sense. Not having birds that belong to others has made the day a little less stressful and I managed to get quite a lot accomplished around here. I figured a little manual labor that didn't require a great deal of thinking my be in order, so I once again took up the thatching rake and clean a considerable portion of the yard.

Bluemoon and her husband had to come into Howell and their arrival gave me an excellent excuse to take a break from the yard. A body must be a good host when people are kind enough to visit. I enjoyed our time immensely and it's nice that through BYC I am able to widen my circle of friends. I'm fortunate that I am able to be friends with people of all different ages. Talking with Chelsea yesterday I discovered that she is only 5 months older than my youngest son. Each year the title of Opa becomes more and more appropriate.

Easttxchick, I commend you for your snake-riddance expertise. I was out walking the border a couple of nights ago with DH and Macy the Wonder Dog. We saw a possum, and my first instinct was to say, "Macy, go get it!" She tree'd it, even though she's basically a designer poodle. I was impressed with her, and thought it my obligation to honor her by picking up a stick and whacking the durn thing in the head. Hubby didn't understand the significance of the action, and I had to explain, "but she tree'd it." He said, "I didn't think you had it in you to be a killer." I said, "But it was a possum. It coulda killed my ducks or chickens". He said, "But with a stick?" I said, "That was all I had available." *sigh* Sometimes I'm just so misunderstood.

In regard to my ducklings, I'm a bit worried. The little'uns have about three holes per egg now instead of just one. The one egg that looked like it had dark stuff spreading inside it still does not have a hole yet. I went up to check a few minutes ago, and at least one of them is still peeping. I'm sure there are more, I just did not stand there long enough to know for sure. I'm a bit bummed out because one of my favorite hens (Currie, the forever broody) is missing.

Opa, how is Minnie doing in her new environment?

Wow, I can't believe at I gone over 12 hours without checking on the chicks. The fact that all that are in the coop belong to me sure has removed the anxiety. Sitting here drinking coffee and thinking about all I need to do today sure is more enjoyable than actually getting started. I know that procrastination is a bad idea but

Morning Opa,

I thought about you yesterday! I had to take one of my babies to a Specialist in Oklahoma City. As we were walking inside someone had a license plate that had OPA on it.

I'm drinking my coffee and just finished Grit's and her DH's cards to get into the mail. Thinking about what I need to do and thinking that I really don't want to do anything

Have a Blessed Day Opa.

Boy oh boy, I have been slack about posting! Sorry. I do pop in to read pretty often.

Happy hatching to all those hatching. I am resisting the urge so far! I just rehomed 10 roos and hens, so now the remaining ones have a little breathing room. Stiil have 3 Ameraucana roos that need to go live elsewhere.

DH went back to work, light duty, last Thursday. He out right now tilling the garden, with a stern warning and watchful eye to keep him from overdoing it. He really did a remarkably fast recovery!

The ducks will be 3 weeks tomorrow and they are out in a pen, with dishpans of water to swim in. Yesterday they all crowded into one pan, so time for a slightly bigger pool. They are cute as bug's ears, but I sure am glad to have them out of the house! Peeeeyuuuuuuuu!

Got the Easter ham in the fridge, fresh asparagus and potato something will round out the Easter Feaster. Otherwise, it'll be a typical day around here!

Opa, that egg carving is pretty darned good for a first timer! Looks professional to me.

"Thistle . Co` latha breith sona dhuibh!" Every time I try to sound that out I have to clean the screen!

Jena dear heart, happy birthday if this is really your birthday. And if it's a senility post happy birthday anyway.

I think that next year I may have to see if I can get that as a vanity plate. It's probably already taken but if's worth a shot.

Tomorrow we are going to David's for dinner and he asked that we bring dessert. We just finished making something, not really sure what to call it. I combined several different recipes.
1- Started with baking two packages of brownie mix in a 9x15x2 pan, brownie is about 1/2" thick.
2- Then blended 16 oz of cream cheese with 2 cups of powder sugar, folded in 16 oz of cool whip and spread mixture over brownie.
3- Chopped 1 can of cherry pie filling with blender, add second can of filling and spread on top of cheese mixture
4- Mixed 2 pkgs of instant chocolate pie filling with 3 cups of whole milk and pour on top of cherries
5- Place in refrigerator
6- Cover top with 16 oz pkg of Cool Whip just before serving

Not sure how it's going to taste but I gained four pounds just typing this.
