Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

Weather is already starting to turn bad so I think it's probably a good idea to sit home and maybe bake something. I think a dish of warm rice egg custard juist might fit the bill.

Meanwhile, I am "glowing" since it's over 80F here today.

Just finished a dump run and shopping trip and I am parched. I had to turn on the AC in the truck for the trip home.
The daffodils and snowdrops have bloomed and gone, the azaleas, dogwoods and camellias are hopefully going to last until Harlan gets here. Purple wisteria everywhere at the moment! The Carolina Jessamine just popped out the other day, soon to be followed by the honeysuclke.

All very pretty. BUT I want cooler weather! Opa, ya wanna trade for a while?

Egg custard sounds good, I love it!

Just came in from the store, ice was forming on my windshield. Ranchie, I'd be beholdin' if you'd take some of this cold weather.

Opa, you sent me a package a while back. When I opened it, it started snowing. Would you please do that again?

Oh Ranchie, Can you please take a couple of pics of your wisteria and azaleas, please, please, please?! I need to see some Spring......even if it's in a picture!

So sorry for all those getting the bad weather!!!

Its been cloudy here today, about 65 and windy, but no freezy stuff! We butchered some of our oldest hens today and found 2 of them to be full of some type of fibroid tumors or growths; figure it was peritonitis to start but got out of hand. We had no idea, wondering what the rest of them will look like and how many useable ones there will be.

On a better note, yesterday the geese were flying over heavy and while I was hanging up clothes I heard a group coming, the sun was just rising and shining on the under side of them; they were so beautiful, many, many snow geese mixed in and they shimmered like a diamond necklace as they went over, it was breathtaking!

Hope you have all had a good day! CCMH

Cold, wet, nasty, but above freezing so we dodged the bullet. It's still raining but at least we're not facing ice covering everything. The weatherman just said that today isn't going to be a very good day. Temperatures are well below where they should be for this time of year and no warm up is expected for quite some time.

In my area we are almost over run with Great Canada geese and only on rare occasion do we see migrating flocks of snow geese. There is something hauntingly beautiful about the sound of snows and I love watching the white flashes of the migrating birds. Several years ago my best friend Bob and I drove to Louisiana to go hunting for snow geese. The number of birds we saw was almost unbelieveable. Thousands upon thousands of birds lifting up from a field is an incredible sight.

What made that hunt so special was that all three of my sons were with us. Having all three of them together was something that hadn't occurred in many years and one night after dinner they gave me a plaque that they had made telling me how much they appreciated all I had done for them. On the plaque was a picture of the four of us and it now hangs on a wall in my family room. Since that trip every time I hear the calling of snow geese I am reminded of how lucky I am to be their father.

Well, we are getting it all here. Rain, hail, snow, thunder, lightning, and a strong howling wind. Getting down to 4 below tonight. Ya gotta love Minnesota.
