Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

That's why I used to be afraid of looking up popular news stories. I suppose the media does that simply because it gets viewers who like drama. Why is drama so popular?

I just went for a walk around the neighborhood with my 2 year old, as we were walking it started to rain. He started to sing "Rain rain go away, come again another day", so cute! I wish I had a video camera with me. One thing that always makes me smile is a little child singing. I just wish that the rain had held off a little more because we were having such a good walk.

Opa, I bet that news story got a lot of people to watch. The press is just so depressing, the only thing worth watching is sports and weather, but today with that horrible accident, I didn't even want to watch the sports.

Oh let me tell ya....when I had the herpes, the doctor failed to tell me its the herpes shingles virus that I picked up (painful on side of face!) and I would need to come back to get rechecked to see its progress.

Oh I was so mad at hubby for giving me the herpes and demanded who and what he has been with! Believe me hubby swore up and down that he has NOT been with anyone or anybody except me and it was impossible for him to give me herpes if he does not have any, ever! Two days later, I had a woman doctor and I was crying and being frustrated that I got the herpes and hubby said that he never had any. She put her hand on my shoulder and told me "Hon, it is not the sexual transmitted herpes that Dr. ____ was talking about. It is simply called the shingles and most older folks get them. You can not pass it down sexually but I can pass it down to anyone that does not have the chicken pox." Oh I tell you, how relieved I was! But the pain, NOT fun and I got it when I was in my mid 30's and had to take two days off from work. I still have it to this day.

I went back home, told hubby and really said I was very very sorry for accusing him for calling him on the floor. Oh he reminds me now and then about it............

Now that Casey Anthony, I am so sick of it, its too depressing when there is nothing you can do about it or change the fact. I'd rather see movies and weather than the news. I think we are the only country that woudl broadcast depressing news of accidents, murders, theft, etc.

Robin, that's funny but I see how it might have caused some tense moments on the home front. Shingles definitely aren't fun and now that there is a vaccination that will lessen the affects I think I will go get it rather than risk the agony my father went through with them.

Now that I have reached the point in my life that could be described as "over the hill" I find myself spending some time reflecting on what has passed. For the most part I have very few regrets and am comfortable with how my life has turned out. It is nothing like what I thought it would be and it is no where near the calm and comfortable point I had hoped it would be. However, it is what it is and I'm thankful that God has given it to me. Rarely am I jealous of others but I must admit that right now I envy Ranchie. She will soon be seeing the Highlander. As any of you who have followed my posts over these last three years know I value the friendships that have developed and wish very much that I could have found the time and money to go visit with "my darlin' daughter". Ranchie and Highlander, enjoy the time you get to spend together and know I am with you in my heart.

Not sure if shingle vaccination would help me at this point. However insurance will not pay because I am too young to have it done. Yeah the home front was tense for a while but I felt like an idiot afterwards LOL! Glad hubby find it funny now despite how it did hurt him when I was sitting there accusing him. I have myself to blame because all the first doc said it was just the herpes and nothing to worry about. Well that WAS something to worry about if you are talking about herpes, not telling me what specific herpes. Good grief!

"Over the hill", I would say it should be the another chapter in life that we didn't have that luxury when our grandparents did or their parents before them. They were all too busy dying before hitting 50 years old, or died at childbirths, or hard life shorten the time here on Earth. The "Pauses" of life for both men and women do exist and we have to tell the younger folks to suck it up and make the best of it.

And rest assured that we will be thinking (and talking) about you! Keep a fire extinguisher handy, to soothe burning ears!

I am so excited about meeting Highlander, it's something I've always hoped for but thought would never happen. Mind you, she led me on something awful about her trip, but I'll let her tell you about that....

I'm trying to get my ducks and chickens in a row for the trip, but the obstacles and time-wasters keep popping up. Grrrr....

I have just been informed that "oh, both trucks need an oil change and injector blow-out before either is highway worthy". (nice timing, dear)

I took a heck of a tumble the other night- late, after DH was in bed sound asleep - slipped on a box I had flattened for recycling. Went down backwards, hit my head on a table and landed on my back on some firewood. Once I came to, I decided to just lie there for a while. Ooooh, pretty stars! Then I thought okay, as long as I'm down here, I'll stack all the boxes and dust the back of the computer! Nothing like getting a cat's view of the world, lol.
Now I have a stiff neck and a big bump on my head!

In 7 years out here I have seen ONE raccoon- and it was dead on the highway. Went out to feed and water late yesterday and based uopn what I found, I have a raccoon now. Lost one of my Delaware Blue Hen hens. I have lots of hardware cloth on the pens, but apparently there's a gap still.

Okay, that's three. Enough of that nonsense, I'm going to FL.

Re: shingles? NOT fun, both Mom and Dad had them. Very painful.

Really glad your DH has a sense of humor.

I started having shingle flare-ups a few years ago (i'm in my 40s). Doctor said stress can aggravate the situation. I had a cracked tooth, so the dentist said I needed a crown. Then my mother was diagnosed with cancer and passed away. After a year of monthly flareups I got the vaccination (two and a half years ago). Insurance wouldn't pay for it, but it was WELL worth the $185! I haven't had another flareup since, and had no ill effects from the vac.

I feel for you and pray for your relief. Good luck and God bless!
