Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

I can relate to missing the activities associated with raising kids. While my sons were never into organized team sports we did spend a lot of time together with outdoor activities. David, the middle son, was heavily into cross country sking and was at one time the #2 rated skier in the state so I went to a lot of races. You sure can get cold sitting at the finish line waiting for the skiers to cross and unfortunately the only time you see much is at the start and the finish of the race.

Sorry about that, I was aiming for SC. I never was any good at geography!

It's bonfire night here tonight, one of the many silly traditions that we have here. This one is to commemorate the attempted blowing up of the Houses of Parliament in 1605 by Guy Fawkes. Perhaps you remember it Opa?

Anyways we build a bonfire, burn an effigy of Guy and set off fireworks etc. Good excuse for hot chocolate and marshmallows in my opinion!

Opa, I am glad my kids are not into skiing. Sitting outside in January watching a race would definitely not be my idea of fun. I was born in the wrong climate, I should live somewhere warm and tropical all year.

Highlander a bonfire sounds like fun right about now. I have not been to one in years.

Notafarm I know what you mean about missing it. My oldest is now 14 and I am already feeling that way about him. He is taller than me, and I look at him and say when did you stop being my little boy. He would rather hang around with his friends than his old Mom. I remember when I was his best friend and he always wanted to be with me and it makes me sad. Oh well I still have two more.

Children have a habit of becoming adults much too fast. I know mine certainly did. One day they were small enough that I could carry them and now I wouldn't dare trying to pick them up for fear of injuring my back. They each outweigh me by at least 50 pounds. I can believe that even the baby will soon be in his 40s. It doesn't seem possible that I could have kids that old. I sure am glad I started my family while I was still in grade school.

On second thought if the Thistle is right and I was friends with old Guy Hawkes I just might be old enough.

Speaking of children, if you ever want to REALLY confuse them, then make these

I did these as part of our bonfire feast last night and they could not figure it out! It probably didn't help that I gave them each a piece of sausage and some cooked spaghetti and told them whichever one could replicate it first got extra dessert. Needless to say I got the extras! Too cruel?
