Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

Quite a storm rolled through here last night. The weatherman said that we could have wind speeds up to 80 mph. Don't know if it reached that but adding in the torrential rain that accompanied it I'm almost afraid to go look at my garden. I hope the young plants were able to stand up to the onslaught.

This morning is quite pleasant so I'd better try and get something done before it gets too hot. This afternoon is supposed to be hot and humid, ideal weather to stay indoors and read. But instead of that we've got to a birthday party for Hope's youngest granddaughter's 5th birthday. I went out trying to find something for a present and wound up with a ball that you put a water balloon in and then you're supposed to pass it back and forth. What makes it interesting is that it has a windup timer that releases a pin that breaks the balloon so at some point someone gets wet.

They got the racing in at Spartan last night. Jon ended up 2nd. Not bad for the season so far. 6 races and he has 4 wins, 1 2nd, 1 back of the back due to crash.

Back from Geyers Auction already this morning too. Dropped off 16 1 1/2 month old leghorn cockerals. Still bummed I only have 9 pullets!

Still no rain here, dry and crunchy walking. We went ahead and started digging our potatoes as they were cooking in the ground, plowed out three rows and picked them up and then canned new potatoes the rest of the day. Hot and humid again. Tomorrow for Father's Day one of my hubby's son's has invited us to the river in the morning to spend some time with him and his family. We went a few days ago and it was almost too hot to enjoy, but pretty sure we will go at least for a while in the morning while its cooler, always fun to watch the grandkids enjoying themselves.

To all the dad's and grandpa's out there my best wishes for a great Father's Day, hope you get to see or at least hear from all your kids!!!

Well folks, I thought I was through for the night and then received an e-mail regarding my cousin's daughter from her Caring Bridge Journal that her husband has used to keep us updated..........

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing" 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Today, at 12:25 pm, Miriam finished the race. She took her final breath with her father holding her hand. Miriam has been given the gift of eternal life and peace.

All of the family was over this afternoon to say their final goodbyes. I am also happy to report that Miriam's final wishes have been fulfilled. Miriam wished to donate her body and orgrans. As I type this, Miriam's skin is on its way to the local hospitals and will be used to save and improve lives of burn vicitms. After her skin is used, her remains will be donated to different teaching institutions across the country for medical teaching and reasearch.

Norah and I cannot thank you enough for your ongoing prayers and support. We will be forever greatful and already feel the presence of all your prayers.

"Weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning" Psalm 30:5

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers for this young family. Norah is her daughter.

For years my father was the song leader and a deacon in their church. He loved leading the church in song and loved waiting at the door to greet each person as they came in to worship. In his declining years he could no longer do either and he missed it immensely. When he passed I told my mother that I'm sure that he asked St Peter to let him stand just inside the gate and greet people as they came in. I'm confident at this afternoon he was standing there welcoming Miriam into the fold. My heartfelt condolence to all she has left behind.

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there. Hope you have a wonderful day.

How did the party go yesterday Sam? It was my DD's 5th birthday party yesterday too. I hope you got better weather for yours than we did. 40 something degrees and blowing a gale here. So it was quickly changed to an inside party and while I am sure the girls all had fun, I was a little disappointed as I had a lot of outside stuff plannned.

another of my chickens has decided to go broody - one of the brahmas again. I was researching some good sites this morning that I could purchase some eggs from. i was particularly interested in a few orpington sites and might just have to go ahead and get some lemon cuckoo, splash and/or jubilee eggs for her.
