Open front coop done, chicken yard in progress

That worked beautifully! I didn't do the kills, Igor said I didn't have to. I did all the rest though and stayed and watched. There are 4, I plucked these, he was doing the last while I headed out for more ice. I agree, I'm very thankful for the meals! Our dogs will share in our bounty as well.
It's very quiet outside. This run was much better than last weekend though. Lessons learned and still learning.
This is a very weird weekend. I just got done with death but there's a chick breaking out of its shell in my incubator right now.

We had some wood left over from the mini coop build that Igor used to frame the community nest area. I'll eventually have to find something more appropriate to withstand deep litter but it'll do for now. Cement blocks similar to coop foundation? Don't like the holes in those, need an alternative.

The lattice is leftover from some stuff I got from my parents years ago. I've seen my previous layers struggle with the heat but this open design lets the air flow very well in that corner so I think they'll be cooler than using a nest box.
The coop is due for a serious vacuuming, I'll get it done tomorrow.
Planning to remove the boards we used to anchor previous nest boxes, sanitize and whitewash the interior along with some fresh paint on the outside in early Spring. Would like to finish nesting area at that time as well.
Down to 8 chickens in the coop, 2 roos with possible 3rd? Keeping an eye on one of the black birds. The flock already feels more relaxed and based on behavior, I feel like I made the right decision in not keeping the blue roo. Plus, he had a tremendous amount of fluff when I plucked him. The white roo was the meatiest of them all.

Do you think the wood will rot in the DL?
Agrees holes in concrete blocks could be a problem.
