Open Wound. Help!!! UPDATE

Update, Blackie is doing well. Her wound has closed up by 50%. So now is just about 1 inch around. She and Whitie have adjusted to tractor life, they still want out but are not pacing all day. Both eating like pigs and laying. I have upped the protein intake, Flock Raiser feed, 2 boiled eggs each morning with the shells crushed in, LOTS of treats since bugs are limited in the tractor. I am planning on keeping them in there for another week, then depending on how it looks maybe letting them out at evening for a little bit to run. My cockerel will go into the tractor while they are out until I feel she can handle him mounting her again.

I've used the vetericyn and it seems to work great. I prefer it over a paste or ointment, which can actually seal anerobic bacteria in the wound.
A little tip for trimming claws, get one of those files for acrylic nails, takes the nail down pretty fast and you can see it you're getting close to the quick. Then smooth the nail with a regular Emory board. A clipped nail can still have sharp jagged edges.

Yeah, found that out. I didn't want to traumatize him more. Gonna file on them when I inspect them all this Thursday. Thanks

So Blackie has made an old Native American band-aid. She has made a mud scab by filling her beak with water and letting out over her wound then jumping into the tub of dirt I have in the tractor for them to dust bathe in. It is almost a 1/4" thick and I cannot pull it away so it has sealed the wound up. I actually watched her doing this, that is how I know what she did. My grandmother was 1/2 Native American and I remember her telling us if no band-aids are available to do what Blackie did. So I am just going to let her alone with treating with the Vetericyn. I am gonna let them finish the higher protein feed then let them back with the flock and put my cockerel in the tractor until she is fully healed. He is not going to be happy.

So I moved the tractor next to the coop and put Pig Pen(cockerel) into it and put Blackie and Whitie back into the main coop this morning before sunrise. I watched for a while and my Production RIR who was at the bottom of the order immediately start challenging both the girls. They were only away from the flock for a week and still in same yard. Whitie was having none of that and quickly put Lil Red back in her place, but Blackie would not assert her place. She just ran screaming. They even went as far as a fight, no blood as I checked when it was done. But now it seems that Blackie has moved to the bottom. Whitie defends Blackie if they are near one another, but otherwise Blackie just goes running from Red. I really hope she will reassert herself once she is 100% healed. The mud scab is still in place and I witnessed no one picking at the spot. I did end up letting everyone out of the pens to free range for the day. Pig Pen tried to mate Blackie but she just avoided him all day. Pig Pen will go back into the tractor for nights and will be let out with the rest to range. Just don't want him and Blackie in a confined space until skin has completely healed up. Has anyone else had pecking order change up like this after only one week away? I understand if for longer, but a week?
