Operation Dry Hatch

day 19 nothing yet, no cheeps or peeps, no rock or rollin, they did bob in water. what are my chances

Sorry, I didn't see they bobbed in the water. I think bobbing means they are not alive, sinking means they are dead. I just had to do the float test a few weeks ago to confirm two eggs my hen got off of had not made it. Can you see any movement when you candle? You can still leave them for several more days just to be on the safe side.

OMG, Kept saying there was a error submitting my reply so I hit submit again and again, so now there are like 4 of the same posts. Really I'm not crazy I promise.

Okay...I'll buy it just this once, LOL!

I have all hens a buff, a blue and 1 of my buffs got killed by a hawk last month. I was just trying to get some other colors and I really like the Mille, Calico, buff columbian, columbian, mottled and silver laced. So just really looking for some other colors.

Once you get the hang of the incubator, you should try Luckypickens. She has a great variety of cochins and is very reasonable on price.

Here is the link in case you haven't seen it and would like to look at her stock. I have a friend who bought some and the fertility was very good.

Leave them alone, you won't see rooling until day 21 usually. And make sure your Day 1 is 24 hours after you started incubating. You might have a couple of days yet,
And yes you might see movement up to a week before hatch day. But you shoyldnt be watching for that right now. Lock up time! No opening the bator!

I shouldn't post when I am tired.....according to me they are not alive whatever they do

Research and make sure I'm right, unless someone else pops in here....bobbing = not alive ..... sinking = alive
I'm sorry about that typing error!
But you should still leave them alone just in case if you're not certain.

wholewheatchicken: Yes that's where I got them from luckypickens. That's where I first discovered the other colors I want. LOL They had excellent fertility only 4 with nothing and 1 of those had a moving airpocket from shipping I assume. I didn't loose any others until few days before lockdown and then 6 of hers in lockdown but I had others in with them I also lost in lockdown.

She has beautiful cochins. I would love to get some eggs from her before the season ends.

what season would that be? chickens lay eggs year round to hatch

Oh, sure they do, but I hear a lot of chickens' fertility goes down in the fall and winter!!!!!! Funny thing, mine were the most fertile during the winter, but maybe it was because they were just maturing and my roo was so excited to have some girlfriends!
How is your chicken rebuilding coming along, Mohillbilly?
