Operation Rehab...is there any hope for her?

I was thinking more about keeping the strength in her little legs. The vet was concerned with the legs atrophy from lack of use. If you carry her around she may lose her ability to eventually walk. So I just meant to add this to your nutritional supplements. Sorry about any misunderstanding just trying to help. Give her hugs from me! You are doing a great thing!

Oh I'm sorry, I did misunderstand you. I just got her today and did give her some time in the kiddie pool, she was only in there for about 5 minutes and got waterlogged due to no feathers :( I feel so bad for her and just got an email back from the lady I got her from and she says she's about 8 weeks old......I'm not even kidding when I say she is about the size of a 2 maybe 3 week old Pekin just with adult feathers! I'm trying to keep her butt clean because she can't do it herself and I hold her up with my hand and encourage her to use her legs, which she eagerly does but as soon as I take my hand away she will lay down and won't move

Also, her right eye is VERY watery....actually looks like watery spit coming out...kind of foam like? The lady said the rooster was on her trying to breed her which is why the bald spot is on the top of her head but I'm thinking he caught her eye? It doesn't look damaged but is there anything I can put on it?

Is there a bird vet near you? I think there is something for eyes, maybe a local feed store? Hopefully someone on here knows what it is called.

Neosporin w/o pain relief or terramycin for eyes. either one would work.. and i have to agree with STUPID. so this poor lil duckling can't walk so they just leave it out in the woods for the rooster and who knows what else to peck it to death? eventually. I would put Niacin n her water and also feed her the nutri drench a sip at a time directly into her mouth. Use a syringe w/o needle of course and just put tiny amounts right inside her bill for her to swallow. As much swim time as you can maybe in warm not cold water to build up her leg muscles. I will be surely pulling for you to help this girl get on her feet. Bless you for taking her in.

This may be a really stupid idea but could you put neosporin on it? Our vet treats birds but honestly they would take one look at her and tell me to put her down :( They did that will Pete when they saw him after the rooster attack and all he had was a dinged up beak

Yes you can i just finished posting to use that or get terramycin at feed store, eye salve not powder.

We must have been typing at the same time lol She said she was keeping her in the duck pen, but they were picking on her so she put her in the chicken coop, and the roosters were bothering so they kicked her outside, from what I got from the convo. I couldn't just leave her there after I saw her :( I probably wouldn't be able to sleep tonight. I gave her some nutri drench today, also put some in her water. And I put Niacin in her water too.

She said she "use to be" normal and they don't know what happened, but then she said they were feeding her chicken scratch so I'm assuming its a deficiency of some sort. I will get some neosporin for her eye tomorrow. She emailed me back and said she is about 8 weeks old. My 4 week old pekins TOWER over her :( she's so little

Well you can imagine what a child would look like if it was feed popcorn from birth. Scratch really has no nutritional value no wonder she is stunted. I hope with all the TLC you give her we see a miracle. And I believe things happen for a reason and you were meant to be there when you were for this duckling. Is she eating good? you might want to take a boiled egg mash it up good along with the shell add some peas and enough hot water to thaw the peas and makes kinda mash and see if she'll eat that. My ducks and chickens love it. I don't mash the peas completely up but just get the egg and peas mixed together good. Eggs is an awesome whole food packed with protein which will be good for strength, feather growth. Mine get it every other day. Is she a pekin? hard to tell for me.
