Opinions on Formex Snap-Lock Large Coop

I have never heard this too cold to snow phrase, how interesting, now I must learn why this happens, Thanks!

Chicken math is real, just saying. I have never come across a person say they made/built a coop too big. I have read thousands of posts where people say they wished they would have made it bigger.

Ok, so in thinking about a new home for the girls, how much of a problem is "too big" for winters in WI? I've seen some people on BYC write that too much space means the girls won't be able to keep themselves warm. Is this true? I ask because I'm wondering about letting the girls use our outbuilding. I'd have to convince hubby first though...

We're in a very typical WI small town, so there are farm fields and woods all over. You're right, what an eye-sore is depends on the person. My husband leans toward the shed looking more attractive. We will likely go with that option, but I just like to do as much research as I can. Winter is WI is much colder than out east, but we don't usually have as much snow. There are a few weeks where it is too cold to snow. Usually that confuses the heck out of people from warmer areas, but yes, it gets too cold to snow! Extra space is better. Especially if I "accidentally" get one or two more chickens than is "technically" allowed

I'm from WI and I think the outbuilding would be great. The chickens keep themselves warm with their own puffy down coats! For healthy chickens in winter think a dry, well-ventilated shelter with draft-free roosting areas. Don't think you have to heat it. Just be sure the outbuilding is predator proof as well.

It can technically always snow, but when it's really cold, there just isn't enough water vapor to snow much, if at all. We just say "too cold to snow." A week or two of not getting above 0º (not including windchill) is possible here, and some days never even get to 0º. I made sure to buy cold-hardy breeds

For your run area in winter - if you cover at least 3 sides with plastic to keep out the wind, your birds will come out most days even if its cold.

Throw some straw down on the snow which they don't like to walk on so much.

BTW - If you continue to keep chickens, you will find a use for a small spare coop. Isolation/hospital/quarantine/broody w/chicks, etc...

Just want to be clear.... I NEVER said that you could not CARE for the chickens. Just that they would not be as happy and healthy in a small area. I don't think AART said that either.

No, I most certainly did not mean to imply that you were "unable to properly care for chickens".
