Despite not yet being in the process of getting my own chickens, my favorite candidate for a hatchery is Meyer so far. Their stock seems pretty decent quality, they offer a wide range of breeds, and I also enjoy the incredible minimums they offer with respectable prices... plus I'm only interested in getting Easter Eggers anyway! So yeah! I'd love to hear thoughts and maybe even pictures of the birds y'all have received!

All but the 2 LHs and the white Plymouth Rock are from Meyer.
I have another order for 16 chicks coming in April.
All of my first order survived the shipping last April.

I got some chicks (Easter Eggers included) from Meyers and pretty happy with them, no fatalities, no sickness and the staffs are very accommodating, I was getting them shipped then the last min I

decided to pick them up when I found out, am only over an hour away.

Meyer has always bent over backwards in terms of customer service for me. I was impressed enough to order again this year, and the customer service has been impeccable again so far. The birds I received last year were healthy, vigorous, and I had no DOAs, and none lost in rearing.

My gripes have more to do with the ethics of what they are doing with their breeding programs. More than one person has postulated on the relationship between Meyers and My Pet Chicken as them likely being the same company. I take issue with MPC charging exorbitant amounts for backyard mongrels - dressing them up as DESIGNER chicken breeds (read: barnyard mixes) to the stupid, the gullible, and the unknowing. I get the sense Meyer is headed that way, unfortunately. I sure as hell hope they don't because then I will switch to Cackle even though shipping makes my order more expensive.

Wow! All of your birds are gorgeous! I at first was drawn in by MPC, but after checking out the prices versus the actually received birds... not worth it. plus i’m so far away i’d be forced to take on a flock much larger than I feel a beginner could safely do.

Meyers is a pretty good bet, especially if you're looking for a small quantity of chicks. Do yourself a favor, and if you're ordering a small number of birds, reserve an order for May or early June (Not too cold, not too hot). Request vaccinating for mareks, sit back and enjoy the rearing! I don't agree with some of thier practices, or where they are heading (Which can change) but for now.... they are a great pick for small flock keepers!

I've got two of their Easter eggers - can't complain about them! They are great layers if not overly social. Oh, well. The faverolles, and buff-laced polish I got from them - Muppet, and Mrs. P, respectively - more than make up for it!

Would you mind explaining what you mean by this? I feel its good to know both the pros and cons.

Is overly social a bad thing? My first flock will be pets only since I am just beginning and actually avoided MPC in the first place because I heard their EEs are rather flighty and anti-social.
