I am currently helping my MIL with our first batch of chickens, and though I know this is early it's really sparking my need to have a flock of my own. Sometime over the next 2-3 years I would like to start a group of about 8-10 hens and a rooster (I live in rural alaska so having that protection while me and partner are at work would be a huge relief for me stress wise )
I am thinking of 1 of each breed so I can more easily tell them apart, I am very attached to my animals and feel bad when I can't tell who's who.
any opinions on this grouping? advice? in particular I need cold hardy chickens, but the coop will be insulated.
