Opossum

This thread is AWESOME. The way it is written I honestly feel like I’m watching a documentary series on the History Channel. It is very educational. Just goes to show how many creatures lurk around after dark.
I am thankful for our LGD. She might bark all night, but I guess it’s for a good cause.
Thank you for documenting all this and sharing it with the world.
I have dogs. Be assured yours would have problems with fireworks as well.

My dogs and I are all ready for fireworks to end...I'm a combat vet with PTSD, I do well enough with them when I'm awake and know that they are being shot off. When I'm asleep, I have bad reactions. My poor dogs do as well - hopefully the fireworks end soon so we can all get back on our more regular schedule.

Good luck with your predators :fl

Sorry but I just had to post this, :p

My trained hunting Chessies and Shorthair did the same thing! And when I did a 'passive protection' class with my second Chessie, she was thrilled at the gunfire! And being very trained, went through the police dog obstacle course happily the first time, and won the class test at the end.:love Good breeding and lots of training pay off!

I have a chocolate lab pup right now but will be fall before she gets into duck/goose hunting.
Yrs ago I had a couple beagles I hunted sometimes daily. During our deer season I had to hide my rifle outside, if one of those dogs seen a gun they would go berserk insane barking howling and running around thinking the were going to run rabbits, wake the whole house up Lol.
We have a small mix breed dog you can not find when it thunderstorms , she'll hide behind or under something and not be seen till the next day.

Fireworks exploding over your head is very different from a shotgun associated with reward of a bird or rabbit to fetch after discharge. Not many train dogs to work around fireworks and breeding is not something I would stock in as a way to deal with fear of such things. Fear of the report and flashes is very similar to what you see with storms. I have PTSD related to firearms as well and not too keen on apes implying I am a product of lesser breeding because of it! Some dogs and humans have had a different set of experiences than afforded by the highly regimented lives of highly specialized dogs trained for specific activities.

Now we have a large adult raccoon. It was messing around for better part of 3 hours. it did no damage, rather it concentrated on consuming feed below a chick pen. That was two nights ago and did a fence repair since during brief lunch / shower break. I have been out of town with work so not able to even review images until now. Will go straight to dog-proof traps on it.
