Orange Eglu Cube Coop

Quote:
I cleaned it today, and it was easy. Mind you, it was a simple clean today, which is replace the wood shavings, wash the plastic roosting bars and sun them dry. Deep clean will probably occur once every 4 - 6 weeks; and not at all during winter cold months.

It ventilates well enough. You can see the vents only close-up, and the vents are at the back, and the sides at front. That works for me; since it means the raccoons can't see them either.

The front orange door (not the run wire door) will lock tight if you choose to do so. That means that you must be around in the morning to let chickens out. I chose to slide the door not to lock or close, but leave a 2.5 inches of opening to allow better ventilation at night (it has been muggy lately). This morning I got up later then usual, at 8am, and found my chickens have nugged the door, and gotten out of the small opening ( and because I did not lock it.) As my chickens get bigger, I plan to leave the orange door (that slides) open all the time.

The cost is ~$1300.00 shipped to the nearest major greyhound station. For me, it is Boston; and THAT was the worse part getting the coop. The greyhound packaging area in Boston was very difficult to find, and not to mention the traffic.

I have had researched cost of getting other hen coops in the US (you know what and who they are); and the cost is comparable.

I see you said you will leave the door open at night !!PLEASE DON'T!! A bobcat got my two ducks when I left my coop door open and it devasting so I just don't want you to go through that:C

I've had my eglu Cube for nearly a year... it was second hand off eBay and I love it ... no mites, no bad smells and my neighbours didn't even realise we had chickens for the first 6 months until he was cutting the hedge and saw them... lol

I have 3 chickens in it at the moment, they are very happy and healthy and they have the run of my garden all day every day and put themselves to bed and I close up the run and pull shut the locking coop door...

I am pleased with the way it has dealt with heat and cold and although we don't get the searing summers over here in England its definitely dealt with our rain! ;D

It has obviously faded a little but its a lovely muted green and fits into the garden environment well ... I also have a classic eglu that I bought on eBay in may ... that was a rabbit version when I bought it as I wanted to use it as a nursery coop when the broody Sussex hatched out her babies... with the flat removable floor it worked really well as a chick coop... although I added a rubber mat as the plastic was a little slippery under the bedding and I didn't want splayed leg problems... The sussex flew the coop 4 weeks ago returning to the cube and straight away started laying eggs and the 10 week old chicks are doing well in the classic which I have converted to a chicken coop with roosting bars (kit cost £70 from Omlet) I realise I have spent a lot of money on 7 chickens but these coops will last, are easy to clean and don't require re-roofing or treating with preservative... I'm very pleased with my set up... xx

ChickenDayz and Gwen,

I bougt a used Eglu Classic, and I like the faded color better than the original color. You can see the color it faded to if you go to my BYC Page and from HomePage to the Eglu Page... I hope that the Eglu GO I have will fade to the same color, and If/When I get a Cube it would fade likewise.

I'm not a big fan of the colors, but they do grow on you. I wonder if the different fabrications and dye lots will fade the same.

Not only am I a fan of the engineering, but my husband also is impressed with the integrity of the design and construction, the versitility, utility and durability. (I sound like a sales person...maybe I should try to become a dealer!) lol.

It's been 2 years and I still love ours too. I was looking for a way to give the girls some extra shade this summer and found a beach umbrella in my garage that I don't use anymore. I zip tied it to the side. It's been great for giving the coop shade on hot days, and looks pretty too.

Hope the image works!

I am thinking of purchasing an eglu cube but do you think that the run would stand up to bobcats?

Ouch, the price of those things make me cringe. LOL More than my 6x8 coop with all new materials excluding shingles.

Careful with coons. If a 3 year old child can figure it out, a coon will too. City coons around here can open door knobs, operate latch clips, and pry open trash cans no problem.

We've had coyotes in our yard - they couldn't get in. Same with Racoons. We had some type of wild cat in our yard a few months ago. Bobcat, I think? The coop is steel mesh and other then a bear, I don't think anything can get in there.

I love Omlet and the Eglu. I don't have a cube, but I have two GO houses which each house three girls. They lay me lots of eggs and we've had ZERO health problems in a year of chicken ownership. I'm actually going to either order a third Go or a Cube. Here is our setup....

The other Go is behind that tarp. We had that setup when we were integrated the new girls. Now we have sand and soon a UV roof. I love how easy these babies are to clean. Our coops don't smell and no mites.
