Ordered online. Now what?

So I just ordered some chicks from Ideal. They are shipping on the 9th. We are about 5 hrs from them. But this is my first time ever having chicks shipped. What now? Should I call the post office and give them a heads up? I'm thinking I should probably ask their protocol on this but not sure of any questions I should ask. Nervous and excited.

I'm doing tons of research on here now. I've had plenty of chicks and have never lost one but this will be my first time having them shipped. Usually I just get them from Tractor supply but I've decided I've waited long enough and want certain breeds this time.

Stop by your Post Office and see what their policies are.

Mine has a particular door to knock at if you come in before official opening hours after they call you.

@Obsessed With Silkies I just got off of the phone with my post office. Mine doesn't allow live animals to go out with the mail carriers so they said they call first thing in the morning once they arrive. Mine opens at 5 but they said they don't make calls until 8. I may call early when they are supposed to arrive to pick them up right away.

Mine calls as soon as they come in.

We're an agricultural county so that may make a difference.

Find out which PO would deliver your normal mail. I don't know your town or how many PO's you have, but the closest one may not be the one you pick up at.

I tend to let them know a bit ahead of scheduled ship because i have had pwople that are unaware seriously frick things up.
The days that they are supposed to be there (usually thursday-Friday), i tend to just make the drive in and go inside when they open to check if they have them since they're usually the first shipment in
