Ordered splash maran from hatchery but colors seem wrong?

So, pea comb for the first? If so then it's more likely a colored egger.
Yes, and there was a bantam EE in my order for my daughter's mini flock so I'm convinced now that I had the 2 chick breeds flop flopped.

Has anyone ever heard of a splash maran chick being dark blue like this? They're supposed to be yellow and sometimes having VERY light grey tints as day olds. It's possible that I could've gotten a blue cuckoo maran, but the chick color isn't right for that one either.

Meyer Hatchery, but I added another post below with pictures of another chick that maaaaaay be my splash. I ordered 13 chicks and 5 were bantams but only 3 bantams were obvious so there are 2 bantams I am unsure of bc of their larger size, those would be an EE and a Green Queen. I may have confused the EE for the Splash due to chick fluff colors.

That chick is your Marans, though it is rather dark for a Splash. I wonder if maybe they substituted or something due to an iffy hatch? They have other Blue varieties of Marans as well. Blue Birchen and Blue Copper if I remember correctly.

They're technically just EEs with a standard.
They may breed true, but they're still Eggers.

Technically, no they're not. That's like saying that Barred Plymouth Rocks are technically just single combed Dominiques. Just because they have them in their background does not make them 'technically the same thing' by any stretch. The Ameraucanas of today are a far cry from the Easter-eggers that they originated from and it took many decades of hard work to get there that shouldn't just be written off like this. The reason we have the standard is to distinguish breeds from one another. That distinction between them is important, especially in a world where there's enough confusion about those breeds without these sort of false statements.

Not gonna argue over the Ameraucana thing, there's already a thread that discusses the matter.

I just looked into them on their website but those 2 are supposed to come with leg bands and this chick doesn't have one so it would have to be the blue cuckoo maran or the splash but it's colors don't match either. At least now I know the other is most likely the bantam EE and this blue one must be my 'splash' maran. I guess time will be my best identifier! I'm not the patient type 😭 lol

Ah, well I'm sorry she wasn't what you expected! You might be able to email them those pictures and have them confirm whether or not that chick could have come from their Splash Marans. I have heard of some Splashes being darker like that, actually may have owned an Ameraucana some years ago that was one but she died before I could test cross her to find out, so it is a possibility I suppose.

Maybe you could have the hatchery help identify the chick?

I love all my chickens so whatever she grows to look like she'll be special here and love free ranging with the others. I appreciate all the help and suggestions on this post, it's been fruitful for me!

This is my splash maran from mt healthy for reference. When you breed blue copper’s you have a 25% chance of getting splash 25% chance of black and a 50% chance of blue. Your order may have been mixed up and they put a blue copper in.

Thanks for the pics, that's what I expected it to look like. They're so pretty, it's a bummer mine isn't looking like a splash, but I guess it'll be fun seeing what it looks like as it grows!
