I’m looking to order chicks from Hoover’s Hatchery. I plan to order for sure polish and americanas. I want to show them at fair. I was thinking ordering them for April. So then they’ll be about 4 months for my fair. Is this a decent hatchery. Anyone have experience with thier polish chicks?

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

I haven't heard anything bad about Hoover's. Only thing I would mention is that the AmerIcauna you mention may not be able to be shown in an AmerAcauna category as it is likely an Easter Egger (I actually don't know anything about showing). But if that doesn't have any effect on your plan to show, and your just aiming to show hatchery birds (which of most don't actually meet the standard of perfection super well), then why not. Most being shown at the fair probably are hatchery birds, by 4H'ers and such. Not hard core competition, but probably still awesome fun experience!

To get a true Ameraucana from a hatchery they will still run closer to $18. Just be sure not to be duped as so many starting out are. :)

Good luck! :pop

I bought Easter eggers from Hoover’s and had 0 casualties and all but 3 are bearded and i ordered all girls and got all girls. Very pretty birds and very nice and all are healthy

We've used hoovers for quite a few years now and have had fantastic results at different times of the year, cold early and hot late.very low mortality rate

Yeah, i got Buff Laced Polish from them. They all arrived alive. Quality not as good as McMurrays. Males topnots not very nice IMO.

I've ordered from them....in fact i have chicks in the brooder right now that came from them that will be two weeks old tomorrow. I was very pleased with the experience and have a second order through them that will arrive at the end of next month
