Everyone's experiences are anecdotal, but here's mine:
I placed an order with Hoover's hatchery January 2018. This is the first time I have used them. I ordered Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, French Copper Marans and two Mille Fleur bantams. When I originally ordered, I called and talked to a person about the order to make sure everything was correct (instead of ordering online). I originally had a shipment date of mid-February. They called and told me they would have to postpone the shipment to second week of March. OK - I understand. I sell chicks as well, and production and hatches don't always meet expectations.
Today, the woman called and told me they would not be able to ship the two bantams I ordered. When I asked why, she said they don't send day-old bantam chicks with standard size chicks. OK, I get that - there's a trample risk and that makes sense. However, I asked her why the woman who took my order and money oh-so-happily didn't find it necessary to share this policy with me way back in January when I would have had a chance to order them from someone else (you can't find them now). She said she really didn't know and that she should have. I agreed. She then told me I could order 18 more bantams to make their minimum. I laughed and hung up. We'll see what my opinion is once I receive my remaining order next week, but so far, I'm not real impressed.
