Ordering spring chicks....so much fun. What did you get?

Pics
I just received my order from ChickensForBackyards.com. I was very pleased with all aspects of the process through them. I ordered 6 birds and they sent 9 which was a nice treat. The extras are duplicates of what what’s in my order. Shipping notification was received Wednesday at 12 noon. My Post office called me 6:30am this morning (Friday). Shipping was from Missouri to NY. All birds are healthy, eating, and drinking. I have the following:
1 - Rhode Island Red
1 - Buff Orpington
1 - Black Australorp
2 - Silver Laced Wyandotte
2 - Splash Laced Wyandotte
2 - Blue Ameraucana

I finally got mine from Hoovers yesterday, all 15 are live and well! Very spunky and some are extremely friendly. I got 5 barred rock hens, 5 light brahma hens, and 5 brown leghorn hens. I do have a question, should I be wiping their behinds daily to avoid pasty butt? And, are brown leghorn chicks known to be sort of spicy? Lol they are bullies (I know they are finding their pecking order right now) but they are the least friendly out of the bunch.
If they have gunk on their butts, absolutely clean them. And that’s what Ive heard about leghorns. Never had them myself.

My leghorns are 2 years old now. They are the only ones I can’t pick up unless I grab them off the roost in dark.

I got mine yesterday. Ordered from TSC.com, which come from Hoover's. Usually pasty butt doesn't start until a few days after arrival....this time, it was a few HOURS! Glad it's not just me. I use a syringe to squirt a small stream of warm water on the butt, then hold a moist warm washcloth to the spot for as long as tolerated. I've found better luck with the warm washcloth than with a moistened q-tip, which seemed to work last year.

I had brown leghorns from PRivetts a few years ago, I bought 11 of them and 13 andalusians (that's what survived shipping anyway, just the one leghorn casualty).

The andalusians were feisty, but the leghorns were mild-mannered. At dusk, the leghorns lost / were booted out by the andalusians. When I added to the flock about a year later, the leghorns let the baby turkens take over the roost, not even an argument, much less a peck! I guess it depends where you get them from too.

I got my order from Ideal Poultry this week. All the chicks look very healthy and happy. We had Welbars, Anconas, EE and Blue Stars in our order. There was even a mystery chick and the EE was the cutest ever. Unfortunately, my 5 Blue Star's ended up being 5 Blue Cuckoo marans. I'm a bit stressed about it. They offered to send Blue Stars, but I don't have space for so many baby chicks and having to rehome could be an ordeal. Not sure what we'll do.

I ordered 3 bantams: 1 white crested black polish bantam, 1 steele egger bantam, and 1 green queen bantam. It is our first time getting bantams so I'm excited. We also got a free mystery mealmaker chick with the order so that is fun too! Can't wait! They are due to arrive the first week of April.

I find ordering new chicks so much fun. I have a small backyard (front yard) flock and just ordered 4 new chicks for the spring. I am excited to learn what you ordered/plan to order or are excited for the 2023 year. I ordered a salmon faverolle, a bielefeder, a buff orpington and a lakeside egger. What did you get or are planning to get?
This year we are planning on growing our Orpington love. We are hoping to get lavender and chocolate Orpingtons. The desire is to breed LO at some point soon, but I’ll need to find a LO roo, next year most likely!
My kiddos also bought 2 Easter Egger (were labeled Ameracaunas but they can’t be because they were $6 ea) chicks to let our fav broody BO be a mommy! I’m partial to Orpingtons because we want sweet lap birds that are hardy/good egg producers, but supposedly these will be friendly too, are hardy and moderate producers and a plus for egg selling…they’ll expand our egg colors.
I had wanted to try Speckled Sussex as well but there are none locally. And I love the Cochin but am fearful that trying to keep them comfortable in the Summer would take a great deal of effort!
This may be the last year for pullets for a bit…so we’re soaking in all the baby cuteness! Can’t wait to see everyone’s pics!

We loved our cuckoo marans ❤️. They were reliable layers and decently friendly.
