Ordering spring chicks....so much fun. What did you get?

I chose not to go with a barred rooster, because i didn't want the black chickens they produce. My current rooster is an EE I got locally. I have had him 3 weeks and he is 8 month old. He doesn't crow which is interesting. Unless that is just saying he is not brave enough. He had been fertilizing the younger hens. My hens that are over a year must not be letting him. I have about 7-8 eggs in incubator, of his and some from shipped eggs.

I was wanting nhr orp del and welsummer too lol. Sounds like youll have the hens to do the hatching and raising of future chicks with your choice of breeds.
I was researching docile, winter layers, dual purpose breeds. These were among the top breeds with the traits and colors I was looking for. I will keep them together and as we add more coops, I will separate them out.

I will separate my broodies and put them in their own pen, so they can hatch baby chicks and raise their babies naturally. Since I don't intend to sell or become a "breeder", these will just replenish my own flock each year.

Here's the black Australorp chicks hatched on Jan 4 having fun in the sun in their new tractor. They still go in shed cage at night with heat light
