Well I know now why chicken coops are so dang expensive!!
I've been outside all morning (beautiful day!!) working on a coop for my egg layers.
OMG! I feel like I worked my butt off and it's still not near completed!
Of course, the first part of the morning I spent yelling at the dogs. Why do they always want to 'help'! And if they weren't under foot, boredom made them start digging! Which caused more yelling. Finally had to put them in the house.
(stupid dogs, prettiest day and they are in the house) I hope these darn chickens appreciate all the work!
Now that everyone is healthy and back to normal, I have my brooder full with new laying hens.
They are actually a little older, but I don't have a place for them yet (the coop I'm working my butt off on) They have started putting on feathers, so they really don't need the brooder. I have 2 orpingtons (one I already had) 2 Ameraucanas, and 2 Delawares. Plus the 3 silkies. So I should have lots of 'colorful' eggs!
(when they finally start laying) I'm not going to keep any roosters with them, at least not now. Maybe I will have a cooler full of eggs for the swap!
I love fresh eggs!
Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely weather this weekend.
ZooMummzy, hows the babies?
How many did you finally have hatch?
I finally got Angus in a bigger cage,
but I still get the smaller one out at night and he is still sleeping with me!
He watches a little tv with us(me and the dogs) then watches me on the computer. Then when it's time for bed, he goes in the little cage (I think it is for traveling with a lg rat or guinea-pig), I put the sheet over half the cage (I have a fan going in the room and I'm afraid it might be too cold for him) He curls up with his head under his wing and goes to sleep.
It is so cute. Jim isn't too happy.
He works nights, so he isn't home when we are sleeping. When he comes home in the morning,
first thing, he wakes me up so I can get Angus out of the bed!! LOL
Well, I guess break is over. Back to work I go.....
