Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 22 - Corvallis @ the Fairgrounds!!!

What is the deal with the table fee? I must have missed that somewhere.... I'm not really sure I like that idea. We have never charged for being at the swap and I don't think we should not even to pay the rental cost. I wouldn't like that at all and I don't want to take money from that sort of set up. Sorry, just doesn't seem right to me. I'm all for the raffle and a donation can but no table fee guys, ok? We get 10 free tables with the rental of the hall so I think how I will handle that is figure out how many we need for the raffle table and the pot luck table (maybe 2-3?) and offer the rest. The first people to reply will get the table. It will help out a few people who 1) don't have a table to bring due to vehicle size etc and 2) save space in someone's vehicle so they can bring more chickens

I guess we'll just say that if you really don't need a table, let someone else have it that might. Sound good?

And slurrywidow, I'm so glad you and jibs will be able to join us again!!!!

I talked to a friend of mine and she gave me a resounding "Maybe" on your roo. She'd like to breed her Maran hens this next year. I'm giving her some pressure for ya, so keep me posted.

My friend Jessica and her husband will be joining us at the swap. Her husband is a contractor who builds tractors (I'm getting one!) and custom coops on the side. They will be bringing some of the tractors to the swap to sell - they start at $150. He buys all his material at cost so you get a really nice finished item for just a fraction of what it would normally cost to build. She is going to send me some photos. They are looking to add to their flock some really good layers. She loves Orps, but is open to anything at this point since they are just starting. Hopefully she will join the thread but if not, I will relay messages

It got mentioned back there somewhere as just a suggestion... I don't think a table fee is where we want to go either. Let's just keep adding more raffle items! I'd rather do than then charge everyone a fee.

If anyone nearby has access to more tables that they'd be willing to use for this event, let's hear from you. We could probably help transport if that's an issue.

Ok, thank you. No, I don't want to go that way either. We can rent more tables from the fairgrounds, but I'd much rather use what we get with the rental, divey those out and let everyone bring tables like they usually do. This has worked in the past so no need to fix it

Table fees? How much would that be? It seems many who do show up, often show up with less than a dozen birds or a few roos they are trying to find a home for. It might deter the people who are there selling things at cost or below if they are just wanting to find an animal a home or getting rid of stuff like extra cages/crates/feeders.

No worries. It was just mentioned briefly I guess as an idea but we aren't going to charge. I don't want our swaps to go that direction at all.

On a different note, I just heard back from Matt at the biosecurity dept and all is a go for our date (whew! lol). He will work around our event

I love how small town we are!!! I will be going by tomorrow to drop off the paperwork and money to the fairgrounds. Looks like we are set!

Thank you zoomummzy for setting this up. And I agree- no table fees. We can bring our own as well as a couple extras if needed. We'll also bring pullets but won't specify breed til it's closer to swap time.

No promises on this, but my parents who live in Lebanon have TONS of tables they bring to the rennaisance faire each year (the one that used to be held at the fairgrounds!) Mom and Dad might come up for the event and if they do they could bring 10 or so tables. They're ugly (used plywood with rusty legs) but sturdy. If I talk them into coming I bet they would be happy to loan them for the day.
I am going to visit them this weekend and I will work on convincing them they want to go

ZooMummzy - ask your friend if she would like some started chicks, or even hatching eggs. We have B/B/S Orps, really nice sweet birds - and big. They are the large true Orps so they take a bit longer to mature than the hatchery type "Orpingtons" but are sweet and once they start laying they are good quality layers of lots of eggs. Let me know, ask her how old she would want the chicks!
