Can ya tell I'm excited??? lol! I usually replace my roos every year, so this is great! The plan is to let him have a flock of girls, however many he can steal from the baby roo. There are 4 or so that are babies and hang together, and then 6 or so that stick to themselves.

This will work out great! Thank you so much!!

I'll pm you my cell number so we can find each other come the swap day. I am sooo excited, new birds!!

Here he is...you can kind of see that his poor little face is pretty bruised, what you can't see is that he has no feathers on top of his head right now...

I would like to see him live a happy chicken life for a while, but what you end up doing with him is up to you. I never ask anyone to keep birds I sell them for life, because I know I can't always do that so it doesn't seem right to ask it of others. Thought there are some that I advertise as "roos for meat" and send out of here in hoards. The rest, I hope that if I don't advertise them that way that they will at least get to be a flock roo for a while...

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so one fire put out for the day. I was contacted by a local dairy goat farmer about the goat's cheese on our list. Apparently, and this really is news to me because I am not up on all the laws governing goat milk products, but you need a license to sell, trade, bring samples of etc etc goat cheese. I think this lady went a little bit overboard with her "eduction" of this with me and the way she conducted herself (the fairgrounds agree) - she copied everyone in the state including the fairgrounds, FDA, ODA and several other agencies before even contacting me about it first, and wasn't really polite about it at all, but the situation is taken care of. I have been trying to update the CL listing but the servers are down, so I will keep trying. The website updated and I am working on getting the list here updated. I will also contact Oregonjen directly about this. Sorry to those who were bringing/getting goat cheese - won't be happening

hmmm...that is strange...why was she so worried about it...??? I don't know why people can't just start out by calling and having a chat instead of bringing out the sledge hammer right away. I would also like to know what the license accomplishes (other than producing revenue)... Do they actually inspect or do you just pay a fee? I know there are some people here who sell "shares" of cows or goats...ie...you pay them a fee to buy part of a cow and then you pay them a monthly fee to take care of your cow...so you don't have to buy the raw milk. Can you imagine what people could accomplish if they didn't have to spend so much energy trying to navigate gov't rules to "protect" us? I could go on about this, but I think I will zip it now...

She cares because she sells goat cheese at the farmer's markets

It's fine, I just didn't like how she handled the whole situation at all. She made me feel like I was a criminal, accusing me over and over again of not obeying the law, of breaking laws, etc etc and how she was going to inform everyone and their brother about it. It was very threatening and one of her replies back to me was "one down, two to go" or something like that...making me think this is all she does - police CL ads and attack people. I handled it professionally and calmly but it really made me angry. The fairgrounds didn't care at all, they had no idea...they didn't like how she acted either so at least I felt like I wasn't just taking it personal.

The lady is probably someone who has done all the legwork and paid all the fees to be able to sell her products legally, and wasn't happy about someone getting around all the headache that she had to go through.

I am EXTREMELY disappointed that I won't be getting any of Jen's AMAZING feta, but I can also kind of see the lady's point. I don't think she went about it the right way, but you have to admit that her approach was direct and got her the results she wanted.

No, she was very adamant about how we were doing something very illegal and we had better do this and that or else. I can see her point too, which is what I told her and told her we would be more than happy to comply. I am not out to break the rules or go around them, I honestly had no idea, which is also what I told her. I made sure I copied everyone she copied so that there would be no misinterpretations down the road on her part.

Good idea!
Sorry you got hammered by the Craigslist Goat Cheese Patrol, but I'm also a tiny bit grateful that we found out now instead of later, like DURING the swap. That would have been kinda traumatic! Now we are all a bit more educated about Goat Cheese...

So is it illegal to make goat cheese and just give it to your friends?
