I've lurked for a while now but finally joined. I live in Corvallis and a friend told me about this poultry swap. This is my first year of chicken raising (for eggs). I had hoped to swap my speckled Sussex rooster but alas was forced to kill him as a neighbor made multiple complaints to animal control and I was unable to rehome him quickly enough. So I thought I'd only need to get onehen. Tragically, the hinge on my run malfunctioned yesterday morningand while I was driving the carpool my standard poodle played with three of my remaining seven hens to death. These are my pets so I am devastated. They had just started laying in august! And ive been gearing up to sell the eggs with customized signs, cartons, and labels. Even joined eggzy and have been keeping track of their laying. So now, I am in need of a minimum of 4 hens and I will add at least 2 more to make 10. So how does this swap work? I have nothing to trade:-( but I am willing to pay.

I need/want:
1 black austrolorpe
2 ameraucanas

Then breeds primarily for egg laying that are docile, good pets and with children, and tolerate confinement well:
Wyanadotte silver or blue laced
2 Barnevelders!
1 or 2 silkies
1 or 2 Mille fleurs d'uccle (bantam or self blue)
1 or 2 Black copper whathamacallit? (the dark eggs of that and the barnevelder will make a nice contrast).
I'm guessing lavender Orpingtons are out of the question since their eggs seem to be in such high demand.

If anybody can help me get my flock numbers back up soon, I would be eternally grateful. The kicker is that I just finished building this huge coop for them and now it is waaaaay too big for the remaining four girls.

Here he is...you can kind of see that his poor little face is pretty bruised, what you can't see is that he has no feathers on top of his head right now...

I would like to see him live a happy chicken life for a while, but what you end up doing with him is up to you. I never ask anyone to keep birds I sell them for life, because I know I can't always do that so it doesn't seem right to ask it of others. Thought there are some that I advertise as "roos for meat" and send out of here in hoards. The rest, I hope that if I don't advertise them that way that they will at least get to be a flock roo for a while...

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

On the Ameraucanas, since they are just for eggs, I have 2 clean faced ones, that are from pure lines and came from very blue eggs, they just got the short end of the stick when it came to the beard / muff gene...I THINK I have one blue and one black, I know the blue one is a pullet, but I need to take a closer look at the black one. They aren't laying yet, as they are only about 4 months old, but....

We have a new vendor for the swap: My husband informed me last night he is setting up a table to give out free advice to the husband's attending the swap on how not to get involved in your wife's chicken projects.

He's a funny, funny man

The really funny part is how he thinks that the husbands who actually NEED that advise will be coming to the swap at all!!

Lol exactly! They are home working on their wife's projects
