but I wouldn't mind having one of the little guys. Can he be put outside? I could keep him with my silkies for now, till I get my other houses completed. I have been trying to get a group of D'Uccle chickens started. I have a couple of Mille fleur eggs in the incubator now. I have never seen a porcelain one. The are beautiful! I might have to get 2 coops going, one for mille fleur and now for porcelains.

So if you don't have anyone else wanting him (closer to you) I'll work something out with you and give him a home. (we don't eat our babies either) Roos happen to be my favorite. If they wouldn't fight and be so loud, I would have nothing but roos!

Awww another great Chicken Momma
smile.png
Roos are my favorite too; I just love them. Maybe we could work something out for when/if I pick up mine (I'm waiting to hear if they have been outside or not)? We could meet again up in the Portland area. I have to deliver some things to Cloverleaf at some point this summer.

And have lunch/baking time at the lazy excess! We could do a BYC lunch at my place. We still need to set up the slumber party! I just can't do the last two weekends in June or the first two in July. Other than that I'm open!

Poor little guy.

Of course, I will. I should get mostly yellow legs since all of mine have yellow legs now...just a few have smudges but nothing green or black. Do you want just females?

8 little Serama eggs collected today

Question to those who hatch your own eggs: how do I "care" for them before I'm ready to set (probably by the end of the week so I can collect the most possible)? This winter, I just stuck the eggs in the incubator the day I collected, but I don't want to do that this time. Do I need to turn them? I have them stored pointy end down in a cool place but I'm wondering what else I need to do.

Laura I usually just tilt the egg carton so that one end is higher than the other end, and switch it an odd number of times per day (usually only once cuz that's all I remember!)

They have not started to crow yet. But I would LOVE it if you wanted one.

I think these two boys are pretty special, and I would love to see them get homes where they would be pets.....not dinner. I would love to see one of them get a chicken mom that so obviously cares for her birds!
smile.png
They are between 7 and 8 weeks old now....Cloverleaf could give you their exact hatch date. They are both feathering out really nice with lovely colors. The boy in the top photo is especially nice looking in person. And they are both frienly sweeties...really easy to handle and enjoy attention. I do hold them every day. Can't help myself. I got 6 chicks from Cloverleaf, and 3 turned out to be roos. I decided I could keep one....wish I could keep them all. These boys are really great. Anyway, hopefully I managed to tempt you a little more.

Lol oh you did....I really would like one. I need to ask though if they have been outside or not? The reason I ask is my Mille Fleur girls are inside chickens and I don't want to introduce anyone who has been outside. Let me know about that....and I guess if one turns out to be quieter than the other. My husband is so going to kill me
smile.png
I need to get a couple chickens moved out of the cage that are with the Mille Fleurs too before I put a roo in there. I'm in the process...once again...of redoing my cages in my chicken room so hopefully the timing will work out?

And no, the little guy would not be food ever. I don't eat my chickens

They have not been outside at all yet. They stopped using their heat lamp a week ago, and are currently hanging out in the house with me. If you want one I will keep him in the house and not allow him to meet my outside chickens. I am thrilled to find him such a nice home.

Just let me know when you want him. I'll keep him safely in the house until you are ready for him. They are both great little guys.

Wonderful! I am more than happy to drive him to you, or meet somewhere along the way. I am just outside of Lincoln City which is about a two hour drive to Portland. My husband and I drive to Portland all the time for various reasons (family, shopping, fun) and don't mind the drive at all. I would be so happy to see both of these boys get into good homes that I would drive them just about anywhere.

So I will consider them on hold....one for you and one for ZooMummzy....and hope it works out. You will love them. They are both super good looking boys, and very sweet and easy to handle. They seem to sincerely enjoy petting and sleeping up under your chin.
smile.png
And, yes, they can live outside or inside. They will grow up to be small bantams that would make nice house chickens, but they are also well feathered and happy to live outdoors. However you like. They just want to live with someone who will admire their beautiful feathers and rooster stances...
big_smile.png
. These two are very striking....can you tell I am in love with them?
smile.png
I would keep them myself if I could, but I have decided to keep the one mille fleur roo from this batch. I'm just so happy they will move to good homes with great new chicken mom.

auntpa-k and ZooMummzy....just let me know when you want your boys and I will work out the details with you.

If you want to move young unsexed chicks, I'll take whatever, or if you want to wait until they are older, I'd want just the girls....naturally.

I am sorry too. Poor little guy.

But on a happier note I have 2 more MFCs, 4 babies total and one more to hatch. These were eggs that I let the broody sit on until her other ones hatched last week. I pulled them out from under her and put them in the incubator. The girls had been getting in the nest box with Nike and donating their eggs for her to hatch. She was happy to oblige but that now means I'm messing around with a staggered hatch. I'm getting interesting chick colors this time. I have to go back and look at the down colors from the original batch. One is so darn cute, she's so wide, looks like a bulldozer.

Again, I'm amazed at the vigor of the hatchlings from unshipped eggs. No odd egg incidents, no malpositioning and weird orthopedic trouble and they just pop right out. I haven't even had shrinkwrapping trouble and I keep opening and closing the 'bator. And these are such peaceful babies. Not much chirping. Very quiet.

I have 10 more eggs from the last few days...should I throw them in? I gotta stop sometime.

Good luck with everyone else's hatches!
