Ever hear of a hen with a hernia...well I have one. Took the crappy looking chicken to the avian vet today because I couldn't stand to look at her anymore. I kept thinking I'd find her dead in the coop from egg peritonitis. According to the vet, she can live just fine with it. She even laid an egg at the office.

I also took a cochin in who had started wheezing. The vet said she aspirated something and there's no way to get it out. Got an antibiotic shot and anti-fungal pills. I'm just thankful it's not a respiratory illness picke up from the multitude of wild birds coming through my yard.

The good news is that they are otherwise in perfect health and no worms or cocci....$200 later. I guess it's worth the peace of mind and we were due for a bi-annual fecal exam. I don't worm unless I have to.

I need:

nigerian dwarf goat milking doe (for a 4-H project)
Gold laced sebright cock bird (for a girl who has a lonely hen)

I've never made a full quilt before but I can sew and I'd LOVE to have a chicken quilt thrown over my couch! Fun!

PM'd you the instructions!

Got it, thanks! I was holding my breath while it loaded, keeping my fingers crossed that it was somewhere in my skill level. Now I'm really excited because it looks fairly simple. Thanks for suggesting this. Fun idea!

It's really easy! (Hint, Hint...you know who you are!)

ZooMummzy,
Will serama hens collect their feathers and 'build' nests? Jonnie has been acting strange.

Taking feathers and sticking it in the bedding. I don't think she is 'pulling' the feathers, I think they are feathers that have naturally fallen. I have a small nesting box, but took it out. No one was sitting in it and it was just taking up space. Should I but it back? Is she about the age where she might be starting to lay? She's not acting sick, just different. I keep hoping I'll find an egg! Can they go 'broody' and not lay any eggs? She is probably getting mad at me,

because I keep looking in on her. But if she starts acting distressed or like anything is wrong, I want to be right there! So far she's not, just pissie.
