Ever hear of a hen with a hernia...well I have one. Took the crappy looking chicken to the avian vet today because I couldn't stand to look at her anymore. I kept thinking I'd find her dead in the coop from egg peritonitis. According to the vet, she can live just fine with it. She even laid an egg at the office.
I also took a cochin in who had started wheezing. The vet said she aspirated something and there's no way to get it out. Got an antibiotic shot and anti-fungal pills. I'm just thankful it's not a respiratory illness picke up from the multitude of wild birds coming through my yard.
The good news is that they are otherwise in perfect health and no worms or cocci....$200 later. I guess it's worth the peace of mind and we were due for a bi-annual fecal exam. I don't worm unless I have to.
