Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 22 - Corvallis @ the Fairgrounds!!!

I've a question on native wild birds. I do have feeders and a couple of houses, but they are on the other side of our yard/house. Before chickens, we had discussed getting some for the other side. Should we try and not incourage wild birds to hang around our property because of the chickens? I had heard they were the cause when we had the 'bird flu' scare a while back. Is this true? Besides the lice/parasites, are they carriers of diseases that can be transfers to the chickens? We don't have a lot of wild birds in the summer months, due to cats. But some birds do tend to come around in the winter months. (our cats want to stay in the house during winter)
I'm decorating around the coop/run and I thought of these issues. I don't have any feeders or houses close to the chickens right now. And thought I should ask before hubby brings any home.

No, thank you guys! You have both made my week so much better! He looked up the breed and is very excited! I'm available till 11am on Thursday so hopefully we can make it before then!

I think I will be on the road by 7:30, that should put me in Canby between 8:00 & 8:30... sorry for the early call Cloverleaf. Then I can get back out on what I think gets me to I5.. 99E? The maps say a about an hour for Albany from there so I should be at the BK by 10 am? Is the gentleman for the Fav rooster able to meet me there to pick him up or do I need to call him or wait?

OK, another stupid question. I love having my chickies outside, I just keep discovering new problems that I hadn't thought of till they happen.

What do you guys do about flies? Chickens don't seem to mind (and they don't eat them) but they are really starting to 'bug' me. I've read about 'fly' tape. Is that safe to use around the chickens? I do remember it (the tape) was kind of gross, but if hung inside the run somewhere, I don't think it would be noticable. They flies are just everywhere! Or if that is do-able, what else is ok to use around chickens?

The guy getting the Fav will meet us there. Sorry I didn't get back to any messages today - was at Tualatin Hills again today (what a mecca that place is!). My son took 4th in the tennis tournament and got his first trophy for tennis!

He won by default because the kid watched him play yesterday and called in right before the match today and said he was too scared to play him

It's ok, he played his heart out yesterday so it was a deserved win! He heads to Roseburg this weekend for another one.
