Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 27, 2012 in Corvallis!!!

I have never been to the fall swap and I wondered if there are many plants there? Like nursery type landscape plants and shrubs? We are in the nursery business and was wondering if we might bring something? Would people be interested in that and what kind of plants would anyone want?

That would be great! People are always looking for plants. A few people do bring them but the more the merrier!

I think that well behaved children are welcome. As long as they aren't touching everything and trying to pet the birds or opening cages.

Screaming, running children would frighten the birds, so unattended children might possibly be a problem if they don't behave well.

Personally, I love to see children who are interested in livestock and who might grow up to be poulty owners.

I will have to check out all the info and think about it then. My son is very sweet and he loves animals he has never been agressive or mean and he has experanice with chicks and cats and dogs and goats and sheep but he is a 7 year old so he does have his loud moments I guess I could just ask all of you your honest opinon on whether you would like to have a child there or not .

As the organizer of the event, I am going to speak on behalf of everyone and tell you without a doubt that your son is most welcome at the event! We just like people to be aware of where their children are and what they are doing due to the animals and the location. It is a public place with lots of other events happening at the same time (ie lots of people roaming around). It is for the safety of your child and of course, the animals that we ask that children be supervised. As far as loudness, lol trust me, he will not be heard over the din of the event. It was so loud and so busy last fall and we are anticipating even more people this year. Please, if you can, join us. I'd love to see you there and meet you so please stop by my table! I have little Seramas and I'd love to introduce them to your son.

Thank you so much. I love doing things with my son. The first few years of his life were very hard he had more then 24 hospitalizations and 4 surgries befor his 3rd birthday and although he is healthy now and happy he does have issues in school and is an only child so we like to find fun things we can do together with our limited income as we dont have the resources to go on vactions and do big fancy trips or things. I know he would be very excited to meet everyone and there animals and probly will want to help with anything youll let him help with. As for supervision at 7 I am just now letting him get more then 10 feet away from me when we go to the park , he has to be in my sight at all times Im a bit of an parinoid parent

That is awesome! I look forward to meeting him and you and I'm sure we can find things for him to help with. And nothing wrong with being a paranoid parent. My kids are 19 and 15 and I'm still paranoid!

My 7 yr old daughter and me went to the spring swap and let me tell she had a great time! She got to meet some people and see some chickens and animals she doesn't see often like a baby goat.....

Anyway she made some friends that were about her age and they all ran around visiting and talking to people..... I hardly saw her actually. they also got to help chase once or twice in the game of catch the loose chicken! lol Tons of fun though. She had more fun than me I think since I was stuck at a booth with my 5 mth old baby.....

I would definatly suggest if you can make it you should go even just to chat with a few people. I learned a lot of info I didn't know about certain breeds and chickens in general from breeders and experts.

It was nice to because the spring swap was in the shape of a horse u so my daughter could run around with other kids and I could pretty much see her the whole time! I also am a little paranoid but I have started relaxing a little bit more with her. I will be making her wear the loudest/brightest shirt and/or hat I could find (happens to be safety color yellow) so I can pick her out of a group easily! Works great for busy places like the zoo or park or chicken swap. she can play and I can always see her

Good to know. I haven't been to fall swap before but I assumed it was much like spring just indoors. Will make some rules for when we go then.

Yes that is good to know. Ill have to talk to him about it and set up rules and a safe place that he should go to if he ever gets lost or seperated from me.
