Update to my list...my trio of OEGB/Japanese will be gone as of today

I met a very nice person from Portland (told her about the swap - giving her flyers today) who lives on 1acre + and is looking for more chickens (who isn't right?

) She also works with a rescue farm here in Scio so I'm going to get involved with her when she moves to Scio this summer. I'm very excited about both these developments! I get to do more of what I love - help animals who need help - and more chickens are gone

She might take some others too after browsing my cages so I'll post an update later.

Still puzzling about the sex of the biggest 1, but I'm sure the small one is a hen. I'm going up to the show at Stevenson hoping to see some "live" ones instead of just pictures. i've fallen in love with the little guys

Coming from I-5 South, it would be easiest to take the Aurora/Donald exit. From I-5 North, take the Canby/Hubbard exit. From I-205, take the Oregon City/Gladstone exit (#9).

If anyone has a hard time deciphering mapquest directions, needs more details like landmarks, etc, or wants to know the easiest route from where they are coming from, post here or PM me.

As far as the sex, you can tell almost for certain by 6 weeks. I was able to tell all but a couple of mine at 4 weeks - they were surprises. Seramas are early bloomers in the sex and laying category. My 4 month old boy is already mating and his mate is only a few weeks away from laying. My Serama hens outside started laying at 14 and 15 weeks.

Oh, does anyone know of anyone with Ancona ducks? I have a friend looking for a female Ancona to keep her male Pekin rescue company....why did she have to pick the hardest breed to find locally???

A couple more things for my "haves":

A one year old Welsummer hen, who lays XL eggs, really good egg color, and about every other egg is SUPER speckledy. (Yes, speckledy is a word)

A 2 year old EE hen who lays a pink egg with tiny white speckles on it. She is a cream color with slate beard and red leakage, but carries blue, because when mated with my lavender Ameraucana roo, the babies have both been blue. Her eggs are large and she is laying slower than she used to, but still laying well. Here is a pic of her when she was about 8-9 months old:

I also have one chick from the above hen with my Lav roo, it' blue, VERY fluffy, nice full beard, and it almost looks like it might end up with some blue barring, it's only about 10 days old, so I don't know the sex yet, but it isn't screaming roo at me yet. If it's a pullet it should lay really pretty eggs!

I bought a Cochin chick at the feed store just to see what it was going to turn out like. It's from Welp hatchery, I am pretty sure it's a silver laced, and I think it's a pullet.

I also have some Faverolles x d'Uccle cockerels. I will bring 2 that are white with black in the tail and around the neck, almost like a Columbian pattern, and there will be two that are more of a buff / reddish color, I just don't know which of those guys I want to part with yet. If anyone is interested in these cockerels, I can post pics...I will probably have a couple of pullets of this crossing too, but they will be package deals with the roos only.

I'm glad the chicks are doing so well!! Even the couple of porcelain chicks I had to "help" hatch are doing fantastic, I can't even tell which ones they are any more!

I will run out and see if I can get a pic of her, I don't have any recent ones. She's nice if you can catch her, but she has not been handled a lot and will get close to me, but if I reach for her she'll scoot away.

HAVE -

A few changes - Fran (Serama) is now definitely a Frank so is available and Ivy (Serama) is available again (iffy, can't guarantee yet, but fairly certain a girl); Truman is a Tuesday so one less cockerel - still can't guarantee 100%, but looking more girlish than boyish. I will do one more photo update at the end of next week.

An additional note on Xander my Serama cockerel: he has started developing frizzled feathers. I've never experienced this in a bird this late in development, but both him and Brutus now have frizzled cape feathers! I guess the recessive frizzle gene is in there somewhere. They also both have the softest crows I've heard. I was always told Serama's crows are 1/4 that of bantam roosters and so far that is very true. I have 3 of them crowing in the house right now and 3 bantams. You can definitely hear the difference!

Next week - Thursday or Friday (14th/15th) - will be the last time to pre-order a cheesecake at the $15 price. So if you want to order a cheesecake, now is the time to place your order since I will only be baking them this week and next. Any late comers to the swap thread or "I absolutely have to have that cheesecake" requests, lol I will do my best to accommodate The additional cheesecakes I'm bringing to sell at the swap will range from $15 to $25 each since quite a few of them are more extensive in nature time wise and ingredient wise. Real Madagascar beans from Madagascar and vodka! Not that ebay stuff from Paupa New Guinea and no sugar added to give off a fake sweetness. I've made them going by the federal minimum of about 14 ounces of beans per gallon of vodka, so there is about 3.5 beans per 4 ounce jar. Vanilla extract, not vanilla vodka. LOL $8 each or 2/$15. It is unfiltered and if you shake it up, you can get little vanilla specks in your baked goodies!

I am very interested in obtaining some Birchen Marans (eggs, chicks or adults) for myself as well as Wheaten Marans (eggs or chicks) for a fellow chick lover that won't be able to make the swap.

I have 1 week old Splash Marans (8), Golden Cuckoo Marans (8), and Dark Brahma's (3). Being new to chickens and since they came as eggs from ebay'ers, I have no idea of the quality. I haven't decided for sure what I will ultimately keep.
