Oregon Spring Poultry Swap April 23, 2011 in Canby!!!

I should have some. I'm planning on starting to hatch in late January...LF or bantam? I'll have both...

Oh Gosh. Decisions, decisions. I think he was looking at the bantams. Is there a reason to pick one over the other? What colors will you have? I learned a lot from his internet search. I thought they only came in salmon. Are they really as cute as he thinks they are? They sure look it!

You tell me how cute they are...LOL

The personalities are very similar between lf and bantams, so it's just up to you on what size you want. There is a big difference in size. There are several varieties, though salmon is the most common, and some of the varieties aren't even available in the US. I have only salmon in lf, salmon and blue salmon in bantam, which are VERY similar in the females, you really see the difference with the boys between the two varieties. I am also working on buffs in both sizes, though they are still in project stage, and I don't know if I'll have any available by then...

I can vouch for Cloverleaf's LF Salmon Faverolles - they are WONDERFUL!! I got one at last year's spring swap and she is still a sweetie. I should have got more

All I can say is OMG!!!! I haven't shown the guys the pictures yet. Typical crazy morning. Let me see what the boys want and I'll let you know. I'm thinking they'll want bantams. Small and cute. We have some time I guess. If they are as sweet as they look cute...I'm in love!

You won't be disappointed with the bantam Favs...especially for kids. That's what my son's using for 4H showmanship now. The Fav bantam that had never been handled was calmer and better behaved on the showmanship table than the cochin he'd been using for over a year! He used one of our blue salmon roosters for showmanship when his arm was broken and he needed a calm bird that would just sit there too...

Have -
**if all goes as planned, I will have a few Serema's available - approx 4 months old by that point (or you can have them earlier if pick up is arranged)

**my guys at Del's here in Philomath (I keep them well fed with cheesecakes, pies, cakes, etc) have graciously allowed me to place an order for LF chicks (25 minimum) through their spring chick program with Privett. I can choose any breed I want, mix and match, from Privett's list (I'm getting it emailed to me) and delivered whenever I want. I'm going to go ahead and pay for pullets and for all the chicks to be vaccinated for Marek's. I was thinking of having them delivered a couple weeks before the swap. Any that aren't spoken for will go back to Del's to sell. If there is a breed you are wanting but don't want to place a large order, let me know by January 1st. I'm sure we can make a trade - cheesecake or pie for chicks I will post the available breeds when I get the list.

**Baked Cheesecakes $15 each (and worth every cent per Cloverleaf!); will come frozen and wrapped. Cut off date for ordering will be 2 weeks prior to the swap. See available flavors below.

(Cheesecakes ordered: Cloverleaf - Buckeye and Sunshine)

**Pies with real lard crust (Nana's recipe). They will be $7 each and I can make any fruit pie (double crust or dutch crunch topping) or pecan pie. Sorry, no cream pies or meringues for the swap.

Want: Extra roo's for meat or spent hens.

Another watermelon goat milk soap!

Have:

Plant Starts if all goes well:
Tomato: Roma, sweetie, gold nugget, early girl, Siberia. Gold Nugget is my personal favorite for bucket growing, sweetie is better for soil as it is not as crack resistant.

Herbs: Basil, chive, nasturtium

Other: Morning glory-turns out my blue with yellow throat of last year were not as labeled! They really are darker blue with white throats.

Seeds: Nasturtium and Morning glory if you chose to direct sow

tallyho
we have some chickens that might need to go to new homes or 'camps' by April. I have hens who have been laying well for years but I'm starting to see egg quality problems in the last month or so. They're at the end of the egg laying career. I think I have 2 roos in my new batch of babies (cain't have roos). One is a silkie (from SQ stock, but don't know about him) and the other is a barnyard mix hatched by my broody 'lorp. (The aquisition of the silkies and hatching are long stories!) It's only 2 weeks old, but I see legs happening already, compared to the other one. I would dispatch them to 'camp' myself if I knew how to do it. I only hope I can keep the roos quiet until April! If I take care of these 4, I'm good for getting a few more pullets. Hmmm, now, lets see.......

want - silkie pullet/hen

jzarabs
I am planning a spring order of BLRW chicks from Paul's in the spring and would be happy to add anyone elses order on to mine to split shipping costs. Minimum order is 12 chicks, I haven't decided yet how many I'm getting but we can work out details if anyone is interested. Depending on quantities I should be able to hold onto them until the spring swap unless an earlier pickup is arranged!

Ugh, you beat me to it, lol. Sorry, I meant to get back and do an update this morning but the tarp covering my run ripped off in all this rain and wind. It almost took my protective netting over the run with it. It did break my sun umbrella

Can you say sick of Oregon winters already??
big_smile.png

Ok, enough whining....here's my update. Sorry Cloverleaf, but I got my Mille's from Tsagirl's group of chicks. Somehow I got lucky and got 6 pullets out of 6 chicks!

ZooMummzy -

Have - No roosters to rehome
celebrate.gif

Extra egg cartons again - dozen and 18 count

Baked Cheesecakes $15 each (and worth every cent per Cloverleaf!); will come frozen and wrapped. Cut off date for ordering will be 2 weeks prior to the swap.

Pies made with my Nana's good old lard crust : ) They will be $7 each and I can make any fruit pie (double crust or dutch crunch topping) or a pecan pie. I don't want to make cream pies or ones that require meringue for the swap since I'm thinking they will not hold up that well.

Pot luck offerings: a cheesecake and a pie and probably some sort of dip

Want - Looking for Seremas or Serama eggs to hatch (prefer the eggs). Would prefer silkied or frizzled but open to regular feathered too.
Always open to new colors of Bantam Cochins or different, unusual breeds/colorings of standard size hens but not really "looking" for anything
