Oregon Spring Poultry Swap April 23, 2011 in Canby!!!

Hey everyone. I so enjoyed the swap today, and also wish I could have spent more time meeting everyone....but the crowd was wonderful. How great to see so many people that all love chicken! Just wanted to let everyone I received birds from know that they all made the drive home just fine and have had their dinner and settled in for the night perfectly. It's actually surprisingly quiet here.

Cloverleaf-we absolutely love the welsummer hen! She sat happily beside my son in her carrier on the car ride home being fed by hand and making happy hen noises. And she has been super sweet and curious since we got home.

Seabreeze-the ducks are great! They are my husbands favorites from the swap. The little bcm pullets have also settled in well.

Urbanfarmchix- the girls have also settled in perfectly. They ate a nice dinner and are now sleeping quietly in their temporary pen. They are so beautiful, and they seemed very happy to be held and pet as much as we wanted.

To all the rest of you that I got little guys from, they are all wonderful as well. I am definately looking forward to the next swap!

I know it was a long trip for some of you, a long day for most of you, but I demand pics and more info on how it went.

What if our favorite lap hen is a rooster or a turkey or lamb?

I had these twin ram lambs whose momma had mastitis (they sold her to me as breeding stock). Since they were bottle babies, I took them to work with me so I could feed them every 4 hours. I would have these 2 ram lambs following me everywhere. I would walk them right down the sidewalk on a leash in town and they were very popular!

Now they live at my friend's farm and walk on leashes like dogs. They see those leashes and present their necks so you can clip to their collars. They love to be walked! You don't even have to take them anywhere, you can walk them around the yard or pasture.

Those 2 boys are the best natured rams I ever saw! Neither one of themever ever even thinks about agressive acts with people. They bash heads together, of course, but not with people. They act like dogs with people.

My girls are very pregnant and I can't wait to meet the new characters who will be born! Just like chicks hatching!

Hey, we missed you...wish you could have been with us. I met the most wonderful people... We really are a good bunch.

Thank you very much! That feels warm and fuzzy! I was there in spirit, if not in flesh. It is unlikely I will be able to avoid the next one, hehe.

I just got back from meeting Daze and Celiandy with their camel stacked to the gills! THANKS!

I hope the Midget poults and laying hens are snuggled in for the night.

I am snacking on my truffles... till they are gone! The strawberries and peonies are watered and tucked in for the night. The lovely quail are in their evening hotel with a meal and drink. I can't wait to try the vanilla and germinate the nasturtiums!

Thanks everyone!! (let's start planning for the next one!)

And we are getting it started right now.... https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=490979

Finally got home and have everyone settled in for the night! My car is in desperate need of a good shop-vac in the morning - pine shavings EVERYWHERE! What a great day, but I did forget the sunscreen and....well.....I'm a little on the "well-done" side.

Best moment of the day - the Great Chicken Chase when one of Celtic's roos got loose. Her DH tried to make a diving tackle and missed.....Lensters grabbed the net.....kids and pets are joining the chase.....the roo heads for the baseball diamond....and.....Len grabs him as he slides for home! I laughed so hard I thought I had wet myself (thankfully just spilled a little of my water).....

It was an amazing day! The weather was perfect, the location was perfect and the turnout of BYC members and drop ins was awesome! I had so much fun meeting everyone. My only wish was that I would have had more time to just "talk" to people. I was hoppin' all day. I'll fix that for the Fall swap

Thank you everyone who made this happen!

Newtochick took lots of photos...if she doesn't get them posted, I'll do it when she emails them to me. I was too busy to even think about my camera lol

All my babies are tucked in, fed and watered and doing great. Still sorting through my boxes of goodies....exhausted to the core!

Got to meet Geebs and she was kind enough to come over and look at the roos I purchased, my little BCMs, show me her lovely blue hen back from Lensters and gave me a lot to cogitate on! I wish I had an *n'th* of her knowledge!

Thanks to everyone who came and picked up their birds except I missed the lady who wanted my silky/roo cochin banty boy so he came back home with us.

K7, your soaps had me in olfactory heaven as I drove home....those soaps smell so good I could gobble them up!!

I also wanted to tell you that I really love the soap! They are actually better than I had hoped. Will definately get more at future swaps! I am looking forward to sending a set to my mother for mother's day next month. Thanks again. Oh, and it was nice meeting you in person.

I'm so glad everyone is enjoying their babies and their cheesecakes!

Feedback is always appreciated! Lots of the recipes were new so the only way I can perfect them for the Fall one is to hear how they really were - good and bad

And for those of you who missed out...I still have 2 pairs left ($10) and will hopefully a 3rd as soon as I can locate a girl for Duncan. I'd be happy to deliver them...hint, hint lol.
