Oregon Spring Poultry Swap April 23, 2011 in Canby!!!

As that list keeps getting longer, I keep wanting more chickens!!

I just tore out the nesting boxes in my larger coop today, in preparation of making them "external" (the bulge-type that are so popular on tractors). Hoping that frees up enough space in the coop to make a few more birds fit!

I think I may have traumatized one hen, because I didn't close the pop door before I started tearing them out, and she kept running in, and clucking/fussing, and finally just sat up on the roost and stared at where they'd been as if they were gonna come back!

I put a milk crate in as a temporary, and I hope I can use the wood from the inside nest for at least some of the new ones. Wish me luck!

I hatched two of her eggs for the NYD hatch and got a cockeral and a pullet!

ETA - fingers aren't working! LOL

The birds are lovely. I am in a dither at the moment. I am collecting eggs from the Brabanters to set in my smaller incubator and I bought some eggs in an auction as my first try at shipped eggs for the Brinsea Eco 20. The shipped eggs should arrive by the end of the week. I am really uncertain how my local post office is going to handle getting them to me. We are putting my number on the box and requesting a call for pickup. I work Mon - Fri in town. Not sure if the Ridgefield P.O. is used to getting chicken eggs

If it's too stressful I may stick to eggs I can pickup and Canby is not that far

My sheep are from Canby as well as my favorite store for Dept56 lighted houses. Parsons is a great Store.

Call the post office and tell them to hold the box for pick up. I have done it several times but you have to call them and set it up ahead of time. They will place a note at the sorting station and when the box comes through they will put it aside. It always works for me. My PO is very good about this. We are one of the last deliveries of the day and I cringe to think about the eggs riding around in the truck all day. Did you say brabanters....? Love their hairdo!

Yep, not too far at all, I was just up in Ridgefield on Saturday.

I let my drivers deliver my hatching eggs, (I have 2 that alternate) and one of them even delivered them once in her own car on her way home because she had seen that they were mis-sorted and she didn't want them sitting overnight!

No charge to attend. There is a potluck, so we ask everyone to bring something to share. There are some food items available for sale or trade as well as chickens, turkeys, ducks, etc. Most of what we do is straight selling. The only real "swapping" that usually gets done is by people that have arranged things with each other ahead of time. It's not really so much "booths" as it is people setting up wherever/however they choose. Some of us do a quickshade/card table type set up, others just set out cages. Last year's spring swap I had alot of birds for sale, at the fall swap I only brought things that were spoken for ahead of time.
Last year at the spring swap we really could've used supplemental heat so I have since gotten a converter for my car so I can plug in heat lamps, at the fall swap the issue was keeping the birds cool because it was really hot that day.

We'd love to have you!!

Thanks for all of the great info. I will be attending!!

Also does anyone know anything about a show at the Clark County Washingtion Event Center? A friend told me that there is a FFA or FH show there in about Februarty every year, but I can't seem to find any info on it.
Thanks

Yep, it was last Saturday. It's a 4H show put on by the Prairie Hatchers 4H club. It was a pretty small show, but the chick auction was awesome! Duane Urch donated a BUNCH of birds!
