Francesca is ready to hatch 2 babies on Thursday. I moved her to the garage into a big onion box from Costco. I put a nest box in for her and she's all settled. These are mixes of I don't know what. I was in Food Front and they had the coolest dozens eggs of all colors from a local egg farm. I bought them to see if they were fertile and they were! So I stuck them under Fran. She is the relentless broody australorp. I had purchased some eggs for her but with the terribly cold weather we waited to ship them. The Food Front eggs were an impulse/experiment. We now have 2 eggs left under her and they look good. One is a huge dark brown egg and the other is is an olivey green. Hopefully more babies soon!

And in the Incubator are the Buff Brahmas and 1 lone BLRW, due to hatch in a week and a half!

I have 2, 5 month old Black Orpington Roos with the Lavender gene. I am keeping one as I have found them to be very sweet and curious roos and would like to find a home for the other very soon. They were sent to me with 3 Black/Lav. Split hens as day old packing peanuts with a order of chicks from Gabbard Farms, and I have found yet another breed that I really enjoy, dang that Julie! I have no idea of their quality, they both look quite similar, I took pictures and can't even tell them apart in the photos

My Serama hen Ainslee, the one that my Silkie from oregonjen hatched out (my first broody hen experience) last January, is a now a Momma herself. Little Siobhan hatched right before I snapped this photo. She peeked her head out and I was quicker than Ainslee pushing her back under lol.

I used to run a floral shop and I figure it will be a lot like Valentines Day, or wedding season...you are harried, and stressed and swear you hate flowers and don't know why you ever became a florist, and then when its over you miss the excitement of it and can't wait for it to come again!

I read the TJ thread and that's why I had the thought to go ahead and buy the eggs. They must have an interesting mix of birds at the egg farm to have that much variety in colors! I can't wait to see what I get! I wonder if the refrigeration selects for one sex over the other? These suckers were cold and I let them warm up before I stuck them under Fran.

This dumb thing is broody all summer! I probably get a dozen eggs from her the entire season. I have tried and failed in the past to break her. I have found it is just easier to give in and let her have some eggs. Somehow she does find time for herself though. I will catch her off her nest drinking, eating, sunning and socializing. But then she goes right back to work. I should rent her out!
