Rhonda and I's purebreds:
Dominique Hatching Eggs, Chicks.
Americauna Hatching Eggs, Chicks, SQ lines.
Orpington Hatching Eggs, BBS SQ lines.
Marans Hatching Eggs, Wheaten and Blue Wheaten.

From our youth - Rhonda's son and my neice:
Japanese Hatching Eggs, Chicks. Blues and Blacks.
Bantam Rose Comb Rhode Island Red Hatching Eggs, Chicks, from show lines.
Mixed bantams - RC RIR, Mille Fleur Cochin, Americauna, Japanese in the pen, hatching eggs and maybe chicks.

Specialty Mixed Breeds:
75% Americauna EE Hatching Eggs, Chicks. Sex-Linked!*
75% Marans Hatching Eggs, possibly some Chicks. These have been crossed out for better production, but will still have much darker than average eggs.
2nd Generation "Walrus" Hatching Eggs, Chicks. 75% SQ Orpington. Sex-Linked!*
Black Sex-Link Hatching Eggs, possibly some Chicks.

Spoken For:
Enough chicks for 2-3 pullets, Jersey Giants for moodlymoo

Can do special hatchings of our breeds and many others - have many great connections for SQ/BQ eggs in a variety of breeds. Want just 5 chicks, healthy with no shipping losses? Get in touch with me, email is best.

By Request -
Heritage meat cockerel chicks, if we aren't sold out - $0.75ea, perfect for pastured poultry and backyard programs. The fastest maturing heritage breed, get the tenderness of a young bird with the flavor of a real chicken.

Capons, Dominique, Walrus and Sex-Links (Dominique cross), *possibly* Jersey Giants. Grow meat birds in town! Capons do not crow, can be grown longer and stay tender, make great adoptive mothers for chicks, and can be housed with hens. All these breeds will make excellent capons, with good feed conversion and rate of growth. We need to know at least 3 months in advance if you want these capons! They need time to incubate, hatch, grow to caponizing size (about 8 weeks) and then have some recovery time before the swap.

See post #62 for more information about WallTenter's birds....

Want -
Honey (several jars)
Plant starts, strawberries if they're on, etc.
1-2 bantam pullets. Would not mind Ameracaunas, Welsummers or other colored eggers. Will be flock fillers to keep the little roosters company while the show hens are separated out, so personality and health are more important than breed standard.

*These pens have blue roosters over blue barred hens, if a chick comes out splash it will be harder to see the dot on the head for the sex-linking. About 1/4 of the chicks will be splash.

Just out of curiosity, is there any demand for ring-neck pheasant eggs and/or chicks?
hmm.png
Also, I am hoping to hatch some Araucana chicks, but don't know if I will have any success. If I get lucky, would anyone be interested?

I have:
TBD
Possibly consider if their is interest-
Breeder/Possibly SQ smaller sized bearded dark blue silkie hen going on 2 yrs old next summer
Shes looking a little hagard right now cause she just kicked some chicks outa the nest
and she is such a wonderful mom. she seems a lil thin and her feathers are a lil dull and not very fluffy.
only DQ I think she has is toe spacing maybe a lil off on 1 foot if I remember right from what the breeder said.
(she lays almost every single day she is not broody, she is just broody more than we would like 2 times since June and hard to break of it.
We are hoping to start a small breeding project for my daughter for 4h using a different color, thinking calico or buff maybe blue partridge???)

i WANT:
For me.....
Araucana/Ameraucana if they are out of blue egg layers only
(interested in bright blue eggs only not green or pink)
Prefer hens or pullets but would take chicks to.

For a good price for daughter to start her own small flock:
SQ/BQ silkies (1 roo/2-4 hens) for 4h breeding project and for showing in 4h

Young silkies/chicks that are good lines and look promising.

~Young unproven or Older pair is fine also
~ All colors except b/b/s considered please unless they are SQ then we might be open to em

Horrible story recently:
My daughter is 7 and very mature/old for her age (acts 17 at times) and very responsible.
Even though she is very responsible I am aware of my daughters age and I am right there the whole time helping her with her pets!

We were told by a breeder (I will not name because I will not start trash on here, I hate drama) that a 7 year old showing in 4h is a waste of a good SQ bird and they refused to sell a SQ bird they had for sale to her at the "4h" discount % offered on a different PQ bird they had because they wanted that SQ bird to stay and be shown by them or sold to a home who would show it circuit or a "REAL BREEDING PROGRAM" as they put it.

I do not mean we wanted a SQ bird for a PQ bird price. I mean they refused to give her the 10% off they told her for 4h discount and then they told her they couldn't sell her that SQ bird because it was to good for her, in a different way that confused her luckily so she didn't understand but I did. And I flipped a lid.

Its a little hurting to be told that 4h isnt worthy of the same good quality as circuit shows are. I think they were more affraid the bird would be neglected by a kid and a good SQ bird woud sit in our yard and rott though that is not the case..... And I explained that to them.
My daughter was a little upset about it but she luckil didn't quite understand why he wouldn't sell her the bird she liked. She just was more upset I wouldn't let her get any birds I think.....

She is currently doing extra chores and working hard for the neighbors and family to earn money for her own flock of silkies for 4h
We will be able to help her out some $ as well but 4h discounts appreciated for above WANT silkies. (Arau/Ameraucanas not for 4h their mine
lol.png
)
DH is building her a very nice small coop/run of her own for xmas for her project. So most/all of the bird cost will be up to her on her own.

Thank You

OMG, 2h2c, that is HORRID behavior!!!! I really would like to know via PM who it is so I can be sure to never ever do any kind of business with that person and to not ever refer my 4H kids to him either, if you don't mind.....

I second that....how horrible!!!!

OMG This is terrible. Lets see if we can make something happen to help and encourage this child !

I agree! I have given away some of my nicest birds...ones that I was going to keep myself...to 4Her's. It is more important to me to help and encourage children in 4H.

OMG I would come unglued. Why should a child have to use anything other than the best bird they can find/afford. My 6yr old is saving for a spendy SQ bird for 4H and if the seller treated me that way because of her age I would flip out (and its not a pretty site)

CrazELaidE, I will be buying Ringnecks, but a fellow who raises pheasants for release out in Eastern Oregon will sell me hen chicks for 85 cents apiece. I assume because the hunters don't want them. I'm just going to raise them and eat them, so don't care whether or not they have fancy plumage.

On 7 year old kids, I am extremely cautious about selling animals to children. With some careful interviewing, if there is enough parental support, then I believe that children who want to show should have the very best animals they can afford. If she switches her interest to ducks, 2hot2chicken, I can provide exhibition quality Appleyards or Blue Swedish. No chickens here, though.

I have to wonder if the breeder expected to sell medium quality birds to 4-H and was caught by surprise when your daughter picked out his best bird. It's not like he didn't know that you wanted a bird for 4-H. Lots of people think that there is no competition in 4-H and so any half decent bird will do.

That's not true in this area. The 4-H kids have some really good quality birds and competition is tough.
