This is so true on quality. I was surprised when we attended our first show. Man those kids have some nice birds was all I kept saying

I agree in most cases that a 7yr old is not responsible enough to take care of any animal without supervision! Especially something that may need some speciallized care. But I explained to him that I will be supervising all care and am aware of the care silkies require. I think that she and any other child in 4h deserves the best available as they are our future. And completly agree that 4h deserves quality animals to, kids need to be tought what quality is and how to strive and work for the best. That is a lot of why we are making her work to earn $ to buy her own birds. Times are tough for a lot of people and we are not rich but not poor either. We cannot afford to just hand her $100 to buy a chicken as much as we would love to. but we have worked for all that we have and expect her to do the same.

He never did tell me how much he even wanted for the hen anyway. And I did get visibly upset and after a little chewing out we simply left and he just lost himself a customer.

It was a person/deal I was refered to by someone I had bought a hen from before not through BYC. He does not speciallize in breeding silkies but does breed them. Buffs and whites and I saw a couple blue/black hens in with the white. I did mention BYC to him and he said hes on here from time to time but Idk his screen name. I will pm his name to you though.

I appreciate the offer for Ducks and have considered it, but it would be call duck if any

Having chickens is enough noise, mine are pretty quiet for the most part except the lil roo I have.
We technically like in city limits though we own a large lot and have almost a half acre for my birds to free range most days (whole back yard), and neighbors who love my kids and think the chickens are great fun..... Oh and I'm sure appreciate the eggs too!
We are in Aloha actually and since its unincorporated there is no limit to how many chickens you can have.
Just the limit set by DH

We keep our coop and run very clean so there is no smell at all and our birds are well taken care of, fed organic feed in coop and run and get lots of fresh veggies and fruits (yes I buy stuff for them when we go grocery shopping to, list for us, list for the birds and rabbit) plus on organic local made scratch. They all get a thorow once over weekly and are vaccinated to prevent disease. Also dust with DE in coop and run. so there are never any complaints by my neighbors.

I appreciate you all standing by me in the 4h topic. Its nice to know there are still people out there that care and try to encourage kids to get involved.

Its not a pretty site when I unleash either but I was kinda caught off guard I guess and also didn't want to teach my daughter that its ok to flip

. I would rather teach her self control, which I had to work hard to maintain at that moment. Just becuase I did not think it was right or agree with his decision it was his bird and his decision to make not mine..... As I said I told him while gritting my teeth what I thought of him in the nicest of ways

and we left.

You have more control than I do. I would have told my daughter to go look at those pretty birds over there and in a nice calm monotone voice ripped him a new one. Good for you though. I have an amazing silkie breeder who has been breeding many years. Sweetest ol gal ever. Let me know if your still looking. She is very well known here and in the poultry community for having very high quality birds

Definatly interested in her info..... Please

So many people have been offering to do what they can and it has been so wonderful. We are not new to chickens/silkies just to showing. We have some PQ birds and some young ones that look like they will end up being at leased BQ (not from the PQ birds eggs from our BQ hen after we got her) but they are very dark blue and we are not interested in raising dark colored bird. My DD has always wanted buff and is in love with some of the project colors like calico and blue partridge.

Im actually thinking about offering them as a partial trade for ??? I think all 3 are pullets as the roo I have has started trying to mount them. Hes young though so I'm not sure if roos can get 'confused'
hu.gif
about gender? They are 4 months old now and still scream rap and run when the roo tries to grabs em.

Hes what I would consider pet quality though so he will be getting a new home as we could not use him in any breeding program.
Maybe good for cross breeding? Free if anyone intersted.

Oh n sorry to jack the thread I just was rambling on a post in the middle of the night........ Never meant to get this kinda responce from it

For Spring Swap, here're what I might have

Have:
Pair of 1 year old call duck (black drake, blue hen), this is the pair that I got for my in-law but they changed their mind and got Teal Duck instead
Pair of 1 year old black mottled D'anver, D'anver chicks (rare color not a standard quail color) and lot of mixed bantam chicks (Polish and Ameraucana bantam mixed with D'anver)
Pair of Lavender Ameraucana Bantam. I got these chicks for free from a very nice breeder in Vancouver, WA back in Sept

Want:
D'anver chicks or pullet any color

The last storm that knocked out the power kill alot of my eggs in the incubator so I will not have call ducklings. I'll only sell Mandarin Ducks cause I pay alot for them, everythings else on the have list are for free (first come first serve)

Will only bring what I have to the swap if someone want them, anything left will go on craigslist after the swap.
