I agree in most cases that a 7yr old is not responsible enough to take care of any animal without supervision! Especially something that may need some speciallized care. But I explained to him that I will be supervising all care and am aware of the care silkies require. I think that she and any other child in 4h deserves the best available as they are our future. And completly agree that 4h deserves quality animals to, kids need to be tought what quality is and how to strive and work for the best. That is a lot of why we are making her work to earn $ to buy her own birds. Times are tough for a lot of people and we are not rich but not poor either. We cannot afford to just hand her $100 to buy a chicken as much as we would love to. but we have worked for all that we have and expect her to do the same.
He never did tell me how much he even wanted for the hen anyway. And I did get visibly upset and after a little chewing out we simply left and he just lost himself a customer.
It was a person/deal I was refered to by someone I had bought a hen from before not through BYC. He does not speciallize in breeding silkies but does breed them. Buffs and whites and I saw a couple blue/black hens in with the white. I did mention BYC to him and he said hes on here from time to time but Idk his screen name. I will pm his name to you though.
I appreciate the offer for Ducks and have considered it, but it would be call duck if any
Having chickens is enough noise, mine are pretty quiet for the most part except the lil roo I have.
We technically like in city limits though we own a large lot and have almost a half acre for my birds to free range most days (whole back yard), and neighbors who love my kids and think the chickens are great fun..... Oh and I'm sure appreciate the eggs too!
We are in Aloha actually and since its unincorporated there is no limit to how many chickens you can have.
Just the limit set by DH
We keep our coop and run very clean so there is no smell at all and our birds are well taken care of, fed organic feed in coop and run and get lots of fresh veggies and fruits (yes I buy stuff for them when we go grocery shopping to, list for us, list for the birds and rabbit) plus on organic local made scratch. They all get a thorow once over weekly and are vaccinated to prevent disease. Also dust with DE in coop and run. so there are never any complaints by my neighbors.
I appreciate you all standing by me in the 4h topic. Its nice to know there are still people out there that care and try to encourage kids to get involved.
