Oregon Summer Poultry Swap, Redmond, June 18th

K7, are those standard or bantam cochins?

This is so exciting!

We've got all our chicks that we're taking tagged up and ready to go. Everyone's had their Marek's vaccines except the little guys hatching today, and I'm not sure if we're bringing any of them or not. We probably will, and will just give them their Marek's tomorrow and be cutting it really close by swap time....

We are bringing several Dominique cockerels for eating birds - some of these guys are half grown already, and all our chicks are moved outside at about 3 weeks (with a heat lamp, don't worry!) and are primarily grass fed from there. They always have feed in front of them, but they love being out in the yard all day munching down. I don't use any pesticides/herbicides on my yard.

April 18th cockerels - $8ea
May 21st, June 3rd and June 7th cockerels - $3ea

The older guys are fine outside, the younger guys would still need a light on them. The Dominiques feather in really fast, forage extremely well and are just all around healthy happy birds. And they taste delicious!

We will also have lots of EEs (some purebred Americaunas mixed in there) straight run only, and Rhonda's son will be bringing some SR Japanese Bantams! So cute!

We also have a few "Walrus" chicks. These are a special mix, bred for vigor, size and growth (hence the nickname Walrus). They are beautiful blue barred, very stunning, sweet as can be and will make great dual purpose birds.

Heaven, I don't think I will make it over to the swap but I noticed on the list that you have maintained that I wanted some polish I actually was looking for some Gold Laced Polish so if anyone from my area is going and see some I would pay them for them and thier time to get them. PM me if anyone can help me out.

The mille fleurs are a bantam cochin. Here's one of my breeding pairs:

PiperOmar, I will bring those feed sacks for you.

I'm going to pull the EZ Up out of the garage tomorrow and get it opened up and maybe hose off the dust.

It's time to start packing the van. I have to put things in as I think of them, otherwise when it is time to go, I can't remember everything I was supposed to take. Especially if I have to be on the road early.

Okay everyone I had a nightmare last night that I showed up late to the swap. The park was TINY and next to a mobile home park, where there was literally a man standing with no shirt on outside. We brought the bbq but no food, I forgot all our birds, Rhonda couldn't come, my mom didn't make it over the mountain, and there were only like 6 other people at the swap. Worst of all, everyone just brought the same soaps! No chickens!

We have to make the swap especially cool to make up for that terrible terrible nightmare!

Because I've been so scatter brained trying to get everything with the city together, I've kind of forgotten about the kid's table. I'm thinking for this year to just let the children run afowl and nevermind the kids/craft table, as I'm so not prepared. Hope everyone doesn't mind.

I'll be picking up the camping chairs this week and at least stenciling on the rooster outline I made... probably will do some sort of writing, maybe just '2011 Oregon Summer Poultry Swap'.... jeesh

Please tell me this will all come together and be beautiful and oh so worth it?!

I think it is going to be alot of fun! If there is anything I can do to help relieve some stress, please let me know. I am going to try to make it there as early as possible, but we have a 3 1/2 hr. drive, so I will be happy just to get a good parking spot lol.

I dug through our garage and found the incubator I am donating to the raffle. It's a forced air LG, and all the parts are there. I am testing to see if the turner for it works, if it does I will include that as well.

Between all the chickens, foods, and crafts that people have said they are bringing, this should turn out to be a great swap!

Does anyone know what the temps are going to be like this weekend? I"m worried that my little chicks and turkey babies will overheat not to mention my puppies!

Does anyone want to reserve a dozen Lavender Orpington fertile eggs for pickup at the poultry swap? These are from Hink Farms and super lovely birds. Otherwise, I am going to make an auction for them to ship next Monday. I think $40 for the dozen is a very fair price. I have 4 nice pullets in with two roosters.

I can also start saving my Lavender Ameraucana/Lavender Orpington eggs as well. I have hatched some of these and they are adorable bearded little cuties...Lavender Olive Eggers. My Lavender Ams are from Cloverleaf via John Blehm lines.

I may have some silkie chicks if anyone is interested in me bringing them, since they will only be a few days old. They are the result of Bobbi at indigo eggs silkies. blue parents that are breeder quality.
