Oregon Summer Poultry Swap, Redmond, June 18th

Well, I'm back after a 2 hour drive home in nasty weather. Now I remember why I take 22 instead of 20!! UGH!

It was sort of sad that very few people showed up! I had been contacted privately about Marans chicks and Narangansett turkey poults, brought over several of each and nary one person who had contacted me about them, showed up. I went home with the same number I showed up with! I hope next year will bring a better turnout, didn't help that it was colder, windy, rainy at times. Many thanks to Chris (Oregon Blues) for allowing me to sit under her EZ up tent and allow my crate full of babies shelter as well.

The potluck was quite nice with majorly delicious goodies, homemade, chips, hot dogs off the grill, buns, salads and a great raffle!!

thanks to all who attended and made it special, it was really nice meeting you and/or seeing you again!

Just now home and chickies unloaded and fed, still have to unload the car but that will wait. Exhausted! Thank you everyone who showed up and donated to the raffle, we had a great time!

Thanks, WallTenters, and everyone who put so much into this swap!!

So, Nature threw us a curve ball today - we needed the "shade tents" to keep the rain off (THANKS, Chris!!)... but it was fun to meet you all and chat -- now I have some faces to put to names! And the chickens, nubian goats, mini sheep, and bunnies were all sooo cute!

A lot of hard work went into this, and I'm sure it will build, as you start planning swap number 2 (after you recuperate, of course.

) It was a long drive over the mountain, but I enjoy driving through Nature, even if it's raining.

Hope everyone enjoys their jam!

Here's a photo I took - I didn't get all the tents.. guess I was distracted by the native ducks.

We are finally home! Dogs picked up from the in-laws, chickens fed and watered, showered, and finally in bed and ready to sleep for a week.

The swap was great, it was nice to finally put names with faces

I agree that if the weather had been better we might have had a better turnout, but it was still alot of fun. I'm thinking I need to get myself a couple of those adorable goats soon

CathyM - I couldn't decide which jam to try first, so I smothered half of the toast with cinnamon boysenberry, and the other half with strawberry. They are DELICIOUS! I wish I would have bought more

I sold half my chicks, gave a couple more away, and managed to make it back without bringing any more home. Well, almost... (WallTenters, I'm giving you the evil eye for tempting me with the EE eggs RIGHT before I left

)

Okay, I'm going to go comatose now

It was a fun day. The BYC people are even nicer in person and what a bunch of good cooks! I really enjoyed talking to everyone.

It's not often that an event gets rained out in Central Oregon, so the weather was bad luck. A few customers came out in the rain and I know several people were able to sell poultry and crafts. I hope we do it again next year, but get better weather.

The park made a very pretty setting.

Yes, a big thanks to Chris for allowing me to share your tent too and to Cathy for your wonderful home-made jams. And thank you to Heaven and Rhonda for all your hard work. Maybe we could organize another one in the fall....is that too soon? I nearly bought some baby goats....and I have no fencing or shelter for them! But wow are they cute!

Cathy M, FINALLY, home made jam that I definitely remember!!! Total HEAVEN!!

I almost bought one of those baby Nubians as well! I know they are beautifully bred, pedigreed/papered but I just couldn't bring myself to spend $150.00 that I didn't have budgeted anyway. Maybe one day? They sure had me in stitches, the joi de vivre'!!

@ Seabreeze....how much were you asking for your Blue Copper Marans pullets and what lines are they. Do they have feathered shanks?

For the meet it was 10.00 for chicks, wether black or blue. When I got home, I ran a CL ad and now all of them have sold. I've got broodies setting on more but of course, it will be a few days

Original hens from Andy in Corvallis and his are Bev Davis lines; roos are also Bev Davis (one is a light blue birchen the other a dark blue birchen)
