Oregon

We lost power yesterday for over 4 hours. I have three eggs (W/BW Ameraucana) in one hatcher, yesterday was day 21. I have eight eggs (BR/NH/BO) in another and yesterday was day 19. This morning, before I left for work, I checked on the eggs and one of the three had a pip! I was quite surprised and very pleased!

Hopefully it just slowed them down a bit and doesn't hurt anything!!!!

This hatch has been very strange: low/very low humidity and temp spikes, so with the power outage on top of it all I was quite surprised to see the pip cuz I figured they were goners and had pretty much given up on them...so we'll see tonight what's happened when I get home!!

It's funny how these little buggers will find a way!!

Our relocation to PDX is moving along great! We should be there by April 2nd. We were in town this past weekend looking for a rental property and we found a great house in Beaverton! It's not as convenient to downtown (or to work) as we would have liked, but the house was too nice to pass up! It doesn't have a huge yard (like we wanted) and it is a little closer to the neighbors than we wanted...but we can make it work for a year, until we buy a place.

I checked out City Chickens info on Beaverton Chicken Laws and it looks like if the lot is larger than 5000 sq. ft. then you can have up to four hens. The lot is 5222 sq. ft. so I figure 3 girls shoud be ok. The coop has to be 20 feet from your neighbor, which is tight, but probably do-able.

Anyway...I am so excited to finally have chickens again!!! Now to find a small coop w/run and of course...the chicks!

We just moved from Eugene last spring to(just outside of)Drain. I thought I loved Eugene but man, oh, man, do I love it out here in the boondocks. I don't think I could ever go back.
