Sweet!!!  Welcome to the Oregon thread!!!  Have you seen the spring poultry swap thread??

We went to the Canby Poultry Swap last year and I picked up 2 EEs that brought miites home to my flock! No more swaps for me! I would prefer not to have to bathe and dust 23 chickens again! Lessone learned on biosecurity! I will hatch my own! But it was a fun experience.

If any Portland Metro folks out there are interested..... I hatch beautiful "mutts" that I hand raise. I will sell baby chicks or more grown pullets. I have a D'Uccle roo and an "up and coming" EE/ D'Uccle roo with a large variety of hens.

I will also be getting some purebred Araucana hatching eggs in February if anyone is looking for some rare, rumpless, blue egg laying beauties for your flock. Pm me and we can do some reservations!

Wbruder17, What is the BUFA?

BUFA is the Beginning Urban Farmers Apprenticeship. Look them up on Google... BUFA Multnomah County. We have 1/3 acre that I would like to plow and farm. I am a substitute teacher who can't get a fulltime position, so I am looking for a slight shift in career...hopefully to an Urban farming educator, of sorts....

While it is sad that this happened. That is the reason for quarntine of any new birds brought home.

Its amazing what a couple of really healthy looking birds can be packing with them. I brought 2 speckled sussex's home and put them aside. Luckily I did. Turned out they had round and tape worm with a side of mites. Got them all fixed up and now they are my fattest, biggest birds.

I now know better.... about quaranteening new birds and biosecurity in general, thanks to this experience. Got rid of the mites and did lots of research about bedding, where to look, how to treat, etc. to keep them away. I guess you could say, that without the swap, I may not have learned these things so soon.Out of the 2 from the swap, one has turned into a really sweet girl and I'm glad I have them both. Also happy that it was only mites and not something way worse!

Can someone tell me where to find all the other, better icons?
